SUMMARY:ECSB SocChange SIG webinar on Polanyi and entrepreneurship for social change
DESCRIPTION:How can the work of Karl Polanyi inform entrepreneurship research? Please join us for the ECSB SocChange SIG webinar on Polanyi and entrepreneurship for social change. \nWe will explore how the work of Karl Polanyi can inform entrepreneurship research in a time of social and environmental crisis. Karl Polanyi’s work builds on a critical analysis of the relationship between market and society\, warning against the disembedding of the economy from society. A critique that resonates with the concerns about the ability of markets and profit seeking entrepreneurs to deliver the solutions needed to address climate change and increasing social and regional inequalities shared by many within and outside the entrepreneurship research community. \nThe conceptual vocabulary of Polanyi including his ground-breaking ideas of embeddedness\, the double movement\, and the substantive economy\, offers fertile ground for re-thinking and expanding our understanding of what entrepreneurship is\, and can be. \nIn this webinar we will explore new avenues for entrepreneurship research using Polanyian ideas. The webinar will feature presentations by entrepreneurship scholars that have used Polanyis work in empirical and conceptual analysis as well as interactive sharing of ideas and visions for future entrepreneurship research. \nThe speakers include Michael Roy (Stirling University)\, Vicky Nowak\, and Caroline Parkinson (both Manchester Metropolitan University). \nThe webinar should be of interest to all entrepreneurship scholars interested in new conversations about the role of entrepreneurship in society and in societal change – in particular those looking for new alternative theoretical vocabularies to engage in reflective and critical explorations of this topic. \nWebinar Facilitator: Steffen Korsgaard (University of Southern Denmark) \nParticipation in the webinar is free of charge but registration is required. Register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/joTaMyuxRNy94RuEYf52GA \nMore information and to join the SocChangeSIG\, visit: https://ecsb.org/socchange-sig/
