SUMMARY:5th Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research
DESCRIPTION:On-line workshop; June 24\, 2025 (12.30 -17.00h – CET) \nSUBMISSION DEADLINE May 25\, 2025 \nSUBMISSION LINK or copy this link to your browser: https://rug.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bQreEsLSYO4nlga \nABOUT THE WORKSHOP \nExperimental designs provide a powerful lens to determine causality. However\, relatively few entrepreneurship studies use an experimental design. Recently\, several calls have been made for more experimental studies in entrepreneurship research (e.g.\, Acs\, Audretsch\, Desai\, & Welpe\, 2010; Aguinis & Lawal\, 2012; Hsu\, Simmons\, & Wieland\, 2017)\, and leading journals in the field\, such as the Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy have developed special issues on using experimental methodologies (e.g.\, Costa\, Santos\, Schenkel\, Tegtmeier\, & Hytti\, 2021; Williams\, Wood\, Mitchell\, & Urbig\, 2019). \nIn this paper development workshop\, we aim to support scholars who are working on experiments as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nAlthough studies using experimental designs are a great way to establish causal relations\, designing\, conducting\, and analyzing experiments are not easy undertakings. To support early career scholars  in this endeavor\, ECSB Special Interest Group on Experiments organizes the fifth paper development workshop on Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research. In this workshop\, we aim to support and bring together (early career) scholars who are working with experimental designs as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nThe workshop consists of two main activities: 1) Plenary keynote session and panel session; and 2) Paper presentations\, discussions and lively interactions with peers and experts (in breakout rooms). \nThe keynote speaker of this edition will be: Prof. Dr. Michael Gielnik (Leuphana University\, Germany). \nWe are also pleased to have a group of highly knowledgeable and experienced researchers joining us as Workshop Facilitators. They will provide in-depth feedback on the papers submitted by participants\, helping to enrich the discussions and strengthen the research. \nDuring this workshop you will: \n\nReceive individualized feedback from peers and experts on your working paper;\nIncrease your knowledge on conducting experiments\, focusing on best practices and on mistakes to avoid;\nDevelop your network with other scholars conducting research using similar methodological approaches as yourself. Several experts in the field of entrepreneurship will closely work with participants on their working papers.\nSeveral experts in the field of entrepreneurship will be present at the workshop and will closely work with you on your working paper.\n\n  \nFOR WHOM?\nThe workshop is targeted at PhD candidates\, postdocs\, and (early-stage) Assistant Professors working on studies in entrepreneurship research using experimental designs. The submissions can be co-authored (with senior scholars)\, but the leading author and potential participant of the workshop should be an early/mid-career researcher. Working papers will be selected based on both the theoretical contribution to the field and the rigor of the implementation of experimental methods. \nLimited spots are available! With a small group setting\, all participants will have the opportunity to present their work and receive both peer and expert feedback on their working papers. \nSUBMISSIONS \nTo apply for participation in the workshop\, please submit your work until May 25\, 2025. We welcome two types of submissions: \nA)  Full working paper: studies that have been fully carried out and the paper is at the writing stage.  \nIf you have conducted an experiment and would like to receive guidance on how to\, for instance report your study and improve its story line\, argumentation\, address the suitability of the analyses or reporting of the results\, we welcome your submission as a full working paper. Please follow these submission guidelines for your working paper: \n\nFull working paper – max 40 pages (excl. title page\, reference list\, figures and tables)\, Times New Roman font\, size 12\, double line spacing;\nPlease indicate clearly the goals of the study\, the theoretical contribution\, methodology\, (preliminary) results and brief discussion including the contribution of the paper;\nOn the title page\, please indicate clearly the title of the working paper\, authors’ names and affiliation\, and “Full Working Paper”. Additionally\, one separate paragraph could be added to the title page in which you mention two key issues that you are facing with this paper and on which you would like to receive feedback during the workshop.\n\nB) Design stage papers: studies at the methodological design phase. \nIf you are currently designing a study where you will use experimental design methods and you are seeking guidance on\, for instance making sure the design is sound and robust\, we welcome your submission as a design stage paper. Please note that you must have a research idea\, research question\, theoretical contribution\, and basic study design for your submission to be considered. To submit your extended abstract\, please follow these guidelines: \n\nExtended Abstract – m 6 pages (excl. title page and reference list)\, Times New Roman font\, size 12\, double spacing;\nIn the extended abstract\, please indicate clearly the goals of the study\, the theoretical contribution\, and describe the design and methods you are currently considering\, in terms of procedures\, manipulation (if present) and measures;\nOn the title page\, please indicate clearly the title of the research design proposal\, authors’ names and affiliation\, and “Design Stage Paper”. Additionally\, one paragraph could be added to the title page in which you mention two key issues that you are facing regarding the proposed study\, on which you would like to receive feedback during the workshop.\n\nAll submissions should be submitted via the submission link. \nFORMAT AND ECSB MEMBERSHIP\nThis event will be held online. Details about the platform for connecting will be provided after registration. \nAfter acceptance\, registration to the event is required. ECSB membership is required for this event and it is also one of the benefits of participating in the workshop. If you are not a registered ECSB member\, we will ask you to become a member before participating in the workshop. Please check all the ECSB membership benefits here. \nCONTACT INFORMATION: info@ecsb.org \nSIG ORGANIZING COMMITTEE\,\nSílvia Costa (University of Groningen)\nSilke Tegtmeier (University of Southern Denmark)\nArjan Frederiks (University of Groningen).
