SUMMARY:Climate Tipping Points and Social Tipping Points
DESCRIPTION:Climate Tipping Points and Social Tipping Points \nThis online event provides an opportunity for those involved in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education and Support (EEES) to (re)consider their work in relation to unfolding climate and ecological breakdown and reflect on how their practice can develop and adapt. \nAttendees will hear from Professor Tim Lenton\, Founding Director of the Global System’s Institute at the University of Exeter\, whose research involves understanding the earth as a system\, modelling climate tipping points and identifying positive tipping points towards sustainability. \nFollowing this\, two new projects which aim to contribute to positive tipping points towards sustainability in EEES are introduced. \nCatherine Brentnall\, from the University of Huddersfield\, and Dr David Higgins\, from the University of Liverpool\, will introduce a research project ‘Enterprise Education and Planetary Sustainability: what can EE do?’\, funded by Enterprise Educators UK (EEUK). This project is harnessing the system change perspective of emergence (Holman\, 2010)\, to develop a process and workshop intervention to catalyse new connections\, conversations and action towards sustainability in Enterprise Education. \nSerxia Lage Arias\, from IES Fernando Wirtz\, will introduce the TrEE project (Transforming Enterprise Education)\, a collaboration between 6 universities\, funded by the European Union. The TrEE project proposes that Enterprise Education decouple itself from (high growth) businesses and instead put its (creative) potential to work to enact more just futures for people and planet. The project aims to elaborate pedagogical approaches\, develop and validate course designs and create teacher materials and training. \nThis event is delivered by the University of Huddersfield’s Enterprise Team\, in partnership with the University of Liverpool Management School and ECSB. \nBenefits of attending: \n– The opportunity to consider\, question and re-imagine the role of EEES in relation to the climate crisis and ecological crisis as society tries to shift to a sustainable pathway. \n– Ideas for how to take action\, learning from two live projects working in this area. \n– The opportunity to connect with sustainability-interested colleagues and practitioners to share practice and build connections. \nThis is an ECSB co-branded event. People involved in Enterprise Education and Support from all universities\, disciplines and organisations are welcome to apply. \nRegistration is open until May 17th.

SUMMARY:3E 2023 Conference
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, the field of entrepreneurship education research has developed significantly. The theme for the first 3E – ECSB Entrepreneurship Education – Conference in Aarhus 2013 was “Rethinking Entrepreneurship Education\, Training and Policy: The questions we care about.” The ambition was to create a conference on entrepreneurship education that broadened the concepts of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education beyond the traditional venture creation and business school domains and to welcome scholars from education\, pedagogy\, and learning to integrate their education research with entrepreneurship. Since then\, the 3E conferences have brought together scholars and educators from a broad variety of educational institutions and disciplinary backgrounds\, and continuously serve as a central European platform for the exchange and creation of knowledge in entrepreneurship education. \nThrough an innovative and non-traditional format\, the 3E Conference establishes a different paradigm for entrepreneurship conferences. It offers an exclusive and engaging opportunity for researchers\, educators\, and politicians to debate and exchange their experiences of the major challenges and advances in enterprise education with a special and unique focus on Europe. Unlike more traditional academic events\, the conference focuses on problems and questions rather than on solutions and presentations of research findings. The format is unplugged\, no power point presentations allowed\, round table discussions that participants have read beforehand. Further\, the keynote speakers are chosen from among the participants rather than being invited outsiders. \nTHE CONFERENCE THEME FOR 2023: BACK TO THE FUTURE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION \nIn 2023\, the 3E Conference celebrates 10-year anniversary and return to the city of Aarhus. The 2023 edition is hosted by Aarhus University and VIA University College in collaboration with the ECSB. \nOver the past decade\, the field of entrepreneurship education research has also grown significantly. But what have we learnt from the past decade about doing education-based research? And how can we use what we have learned to design and rethink entrepreneurship education for the future? \n\n\n\nKEY DATES\n\nAbstract Submission Deadline: 1 December 2022\nApplication 3E Doctoral Day: 1 December 2022\nNotification of Acceptance: 23 January 2023\nFull Paper Submission Deadline: 15 March 2023\n6-page proposal 3E Doctoral Day deadline: 15 March 2023\nEarly-Bird Registration Deadline: 15 March 2023\n3E Conference: 10–12 May 2023 (pre-event 9 May)\n\nVisit the conference website for more information.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual RENT Abstract Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to submit to RENT in Gdansk this year? And have you… \n\nalready planned to submit\, but need some feedback (especially if it is one of the first times that you submit to the RENT)?\nconsidered a submission\, but are not sure whether your work is a good fit for the RENT?\nhave a first draft or sketch of your submission and want to further work on it with your peers?\n\nIf any of these conditions apply to you\, join us for this year’s Abstract Writing Workshop! Together\, we will meet online via Zoom and first\, get some tips from experienced ECSB members to improve the chances of our submission. While this provides a good point to get started\, the majority of this workshop will be spent writing the abstract\, getting and giving feedback and jointly reflecting our writing process with support from experienced advisors. \nWith this interactive workshop\, we aim to contribute to high-quality submissions of extended abstracts for the RENT and\, from an individual participant’s perspective\, we will actually get (most) of the writing done. This workshop entails: \n\nExpert’s advice on abstract writing for the RENT\nWorking individually on your writing\nReflecting together in small groups\nGiving and receiving feedback from experienced advisors\nDiscuss challenges with experts and colleagues\n\nThis means that this is an actual workshop in which you will actually work on your own abstracts. To get the most out of this\, please prepare a draft version of your abstract beforehand. This can be a rough sketch in bullet points\, but bring along a version that you can further work on. \nhttp://www.rent-research.org/conference-tracks-2023 \nhttp://www.rent-research.org/SUBMISSION-DEADLINE2023 \nLet’s get the abstract writing done together! \n  \nOrganizers\nThis workshop is organized as a joint initiative from several ECSB country vice presidents\, represented by: \n\nVerena Meyer (ECSB country VP for Germany)\nRenata Osowska (ECSB country VP for UK)\nJarmila Šebestová (ECSB country VP for Czech Republic)\nPekka Stenholm (ECSB country VP for Finland)\n\n\nParticipation\nParticipation is free\, but a registration is required by 11 April 2023. The registered participants will receive a link to a brief survey\, providing us with some information to ensure efficient group work\, and a Zoom link to join the meeting. \nContact person\nVerena Meyer (verena.meyer(at)leuphana.de)

SUMMARY:6th Paper Development Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Call for papers / proposals: “Entrepreneurship Process Research” \nThe objective of the 6th Paper Development Seminar is to help participants develop research results into papers that may be suitable for publication in top-tier academic journals. The 6th paper development seminar is co-organized with GEM-Spain (Observatorio del Emprendimiento de España\, www.gem-spain.com). \nPapers/proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. We are open to any contributions analysing the entrepreneurial process\, may they be conceptual or empirical and\, in this latter case\, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal\, but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods. \nSubmissions will be peer-reviewed. Those deemed of highest potential by the organizing committee will be invited to participate. Selected participants will be offered the opportunity to submit a full paper (if they did not do so initially). Extended abstracts may also be presented at the seminar. The objective is to develop a productive and intimate work environment. For this reason\, we will limit the number of proposals/papers to be accepted into the seminar to a maximum of 20. \nECSB supports the 6th Paper Development Seminar in Entrepreneurship Process Research through the ECSB Event Fund initiative. This 6PDS is also a co-branded ECSB event. The ECSB will award a free one-year membership to the presenting author of the best paper/proposal presented at the 6PDS. \nThe submission deadline for papers/proposals is January 31st\, 2023. \nSee the Call for papers (pdf)

SUMMARY:Educator Workshop: Innovative pedagogy for sustainable entrepreneurship education
DESCRIPTION:If our collective goal is a more sustainable present and future\, we must manifest\, encourage and impart values that contribute towards that goal. – Yona Sipos et al. p.70 \nWith the great power of teaching comes great responsibility—not just for the students\, but for all the things that education can and should change. Sustainability is one of those things\, and perhaps more so in entrepreneurship education than any other discipline. Future entrepreneurs have the possibility to truly transform our society into a more sustainable one\, and it is up to those of us who educate them to provide them with the right tools and conditions to make that possibility a reality. That is why this workshop will introduce the theory and methods of entrepreneurship education with a focus on sustainable entrepreneurship. \nDrawing from her many years of experience in the field\, Dr Rita Klapper will lead the workshop with a holistic and collaborative approach\, taking theoretical inspiration from John Shotter’s phenomenology of insider perspectives as well as the Head\, Hands\, and Heart principle put forward by Yona Sipos et al. in 2008. The workshop will familiarise participants with these concepts and a range of examples of how they have been applied in the context of sustainable entrepreneurship education. \nThe workshop aims to achieve the following:\n\nFamiliarise the participants with Sipos et al’s (2008) umbrella concept of Head\, Hands and Heart\nProvide examples of how this holistic approach has been applied by Dr Rita Klapper in the field of (sustainable) entrepreneurship education\nHelp participants critically reflect on their own educational practices to engage learners in the three dimensions\nDevelop together with the participants ideas for further application and research\n\nBreakout rooms will be available to further explore the topics of the workshop in smaller groups of participants. \nWORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR\nDr Rita Klapper is (Associate) Research Professor for Entrepreneurship and Sustainability at IDRAC Business School in Lyon\, France\, and holds a Visiting Professor position at IREES\, the Institute for Integrated Research on Energy\, Environment and Society at the University of Groningen. \nMODERATOR\nGustav Hägg holds a PhD from Lund University\, Sweden within the research field of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial learning focused on how reflective thinking could become more integrated in the learning process of students’ entrepreneurs. He is currently a senior lecturer at Malmö University\, Sweden. \nECSB is co-branding the event. \nREGISTRATION\nEducators from all universities and disciplines are welcome to apply. Registration is open until April 12th\, the number of seast is limited. \nMore info: https://learninglab.sses.se/workshops/educator-workshop-innovative-pedagogy-for-sustainable-entrepreneurship-education/

SUMMARY:ECSB Webinar "Stressors\, recovery and well-being of entrepreneurs"
DESCRIPTION:There is an increasing interest in entrepreneurs’ resilience and well-being from researchers and practitioners alike. This is because entrepreneurs’ resilience and ‘happiness’ relate to their creativity\, productivity\, and their business’ success (e.g.\, Stephan\, 2018; Wach\, Stephan\, Weinberger\, & Wegge\, 2020; Weinberger\, Wach\, Stephan\, & Wegge\, 2018). The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this interest. For instance\, our international project “Supporting Entrepreneurship during the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Global Study of Entrepreneurs’ Resilience and Well-being” documented the profound threat to entrepreneurs’ well-being and their businesses stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic. While entrepreneurs were occasionally thriving\, most struggled with increased stress and impaired mental well-being. Many lacked strategies to protect their well-being and some gave up eventually their businesses because of it. Existing research into recovery documents its positive effects but also highlights how difficult it can be to engage in recovery when work is particularly stressful (Sonnentag\, 2018). This presentation will show newly initiated research agenda on entrepreneurs’ recovery (Wach et al.\, 2020\, Weinberger et al.\, 2018; Williamson\, Gish\, & Stephan\, 2021)\, that is moving from documenting challenges in entrepreneurs’ well-being to implementing and testing recovery strategies to help enhance entrepreneurs’ well-being and their resilience. In this regard\, preliminary findings will be given about intervention to equip entrepreneurs with so-called recovery strategies\, i.e. strategies that are proven to aid recovery from work stress and thereby allow entrepreneurs to safeguard their well-being. \nAbout the speaker:\nDominika Wach is researcher and lecturer in the department of Work and Organizational Psychology at Technische Universität Dresden\, Germany. Her specialties are entrepreneurship and occupational health. Amongst others\, she published her research in Journal of Business Venturing\, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice\, Journal of Small Business Management\, and International Small Business Journal. Dr. Wach was a head of a Polish partner institution and research team in research projects on success factors of SMEs in Germany\, Czech Republic\, and Poland funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and she has published on the topic of entrepreneurial performance\, well-being\, and recovery. Dominika Wach is a member of Academy of Management (AoM)\, European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB)\, and German Psychological Society (DGPs). \nNOTE! SUMMARY:ECSB Online Symposium on “Masculinities and Entrepreneurship”
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Gender and Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group \nSymposium Panellists:\nUlla Hytti\, University of Turku\, Finland\nRenaud Redien-Collot\, ISC Paris Ecole de Commerce\, France\nAndreas Giazitzoglu\, University of Newcastle\, UK\nMiruna Radu-Lefebvre\, Audencia Business School\, France\nRobert Smith\, Independent Researcher\, UK\nElisabet Carine Ljunggren\, Nord University\, Norway \nFacilitators:\nNatalia Vershinina\nHelle Neergaard\nGry Agnete Alsos \nTopic Summary:\nTraditional masculine gender norms and values are often associated with entrepreneurship and business success. In many societies\, masculinity is often linked to traits such as competitiveness\, risk-taking\, assertiveness\, and individualism\, which are also seen as key traits for successful entrepreneurship. Historically\, entrepreneurship has been largely dominated by men\, and women have often faced significant barriers to entering the field. This has led to the development of a “masculinized” culture around entrepreneurship\, which can create challenges for other marginalized groups seeking to start their own businesses. \nOur panellists are experts of gender and masculinities in the context of entrepreneurship. The purpose of this symposium is to debunk some of the myths associated with how masculinities play out in entrepreneurship by exploring: Entrepreneurial Masculinity as a historical construct; Role model selection process in the context of male entrepreneurship; Gender dynamics and masculinity in family business contexts; Visualising the aesthetics of embodied masculine corporate and entrepreneurial identities; Entrepreneurial masculinities and fatherhood. \nNOTE! SUMMARY:Webinar “Advancing entrepreneurial ecosystem research”
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to join the ECSB webinar “Advancing entrepreneurial ecosystem research” with Dr. Christina Theodoraki on 8 March 2023 at 3:00-4:00 pm (CET). \nWhile the concept of an ecosystem is increasingly attracting the attention of researchers\, practitioners\, and governments\, there is still partial (and even limited) knowledge about how building a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem fits different contexts\, countries\, populations\, or industries. The objective of this research presentation is to shed light on this little-known concept in order to advance the discussion on territorial and international ecosystem dynamics based on current publications. This presentation aims at providing a research protocol with established and future avenues for research publication. Likewise\, best practices and models will be provided on how to advance research on entrepreneurial ecosystems. Finally\, research opportunities\, special issues and conferences will be shared. \nAbout the speaker:\nDr. Christina Theodoraki is an Associate Professor in entrepreneurship and strategic management at TBS Education (in Toulouse\, France)\, affiliate professor at the International University of Monaco\, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Development Strategies at the University of Indiana and Business Development Manager at the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Research Network. She also leads the Babson Collaborative Research Group on Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. She is Editor of Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal\, Associate Editor of Journal of Small Business Management and member of the associate editorial boards of Entrepreneurship Research Journal and Journal of the Knowledge Economy. Her research interests include entrepreneurial ecosystems\, entrepreneurial support\, and interorganizational strategies with a focus on business incubators. \nSee Christina’s full bio HERE \nThe webinar is free for ECSB and ISBE members\, but a registration is required. Please register via the link below by 7 March 2023. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:PDW: Assessing Multiple-enterprise Social Impacts and Stakeholder Values
DESCRIPTION:In this 2.5 hour collaborative workshop “Assessing Multiple-enterprise Social Impacts and Stakeholder Values: The Benefits of a Human Capabilities Lens for Social Entrepreneurship“\, participants are introduced to the Human Capabilities Approach (HCA) as a multidimensional\, people-centered framework for social impact negotiation and assessment. As an entrepreneurial tool\, HCA provides a fertile ground for coordination among diverse sets of stakeholder groups with varied values and priorities in settings of social entrepreneurship. Workshop participants are given opportunities to use the HCA framework to shift their entrepreneurial awareness beyond isolated impacts towards the broader set of multi-faceted (and\, ideally\, socially-sustainable) impacts of an enterprise.  The HCA framework is also relevant for board-level corporate governance and strategic management\, particularly towards determining social impact objectives and assessing performance. It can also provide insight for impact investors\, for civil society monitoring\, or for government policy-makers working on multi-stakeholder initiatives. \nKeywords: Human Capabilities Approach\, Stakeholder Value\, Multidimensional Assessment\, Social Entrepreneurship\, Social Impact. \nRead more and register on 4 December 2022 at the latest: https://www.eventbrite.fi/e/pdw-assessing-multiple-enterprise-social-impacts-and-stakeholder-values-registration-464234697477

SUMMARY:RENT XXXVI Conference
DESCRIPTION:The RENT 2022 Conference Main Theme is :“Re-thinking entrepreneurship after the crisis” \nThe COVID-19 pandemic and the many lockdowns in economies worldwide create a unique situation with no documented equivalent in the entrepreneurship literature (Kraus et al.\, 2020). Nevertheless\, a body of research on entrepreneurship and crisis management (e.g.\, Cowling et al.\, 2012; Williams and Vorley\, 2015) offers two research streams in particular that could be informative about the COVID-19 pandemic. The first one deals with how start-ups respond to a crisis and refer specifically to the concept of resilience (Williams et al.\, 2017). The second research stream deals with policies and factors that might facilitate and/or hinder a startup’s survival during a crisis (e.g.\, Runyan\, 2006). \nIt is fundamental to analyze what happened in the post-pandemic\, pushing researchers to develop novel theories and approaches for a more resilient future. \nSee the pre-conference day events on https://ecsb.org/event/ecsb-pre-conference-day-at-rent-2022/

SUMMARY:Teaching Effectuation: from theory to pedagogy
DESCRIPTION:There is a broad and rather optimistic view of entrepreneurship emerging from Scandinavia. One that embodies creation of all kinds of value. One that recognises the entrepreneurial trait as an intrinsic\, very human quality\, that allows both students and teachers to almost intuitively talk about effectual processes\, changemaking and value creation. This perspective subsequently brings to light one of the biggest challenges of teaching entrepreneurship – how do we teach our students to not just talk the talk\, but to actually walk the walk? \nSarah Robinson\, our guest speaker for this workshop\, has adopted this perspective and closely studied its impact on the theory and pedagogy of effectuation. “We are all familiar with effectual processes” she says\, “but have not been ‘schooled’ into them.” In other words\, to be knowledgeable about something\, and to truly know it\, are two different things. It may be easy to talk about effectuation\, but to create and commit to the process of learning it is decidedly more difficult. \nIn this workshop therefore\, Sarah will discuss not only the implications of this challenge\, but also suggest a solution for how it might be approached. The workshop will unveil the goals\, consequences and dilemmas of bringing the theories of effectuation into the intricate confines of practical pedagogy. It will teach ways to unravel these enigmas and introduce a spearheading change-maker model\, with the proven potential to act as a stable and useful foundation for teaching effectuation. \nThis change-maker model brings attention to aspects that are otherwise easily neglected. It supports teachers in creating an education that facilitates the student’s ability to see their learning as a process\, to articulate who they are and what they can do. It illuminates the importance of collaboration\, curiosity and imagination\, of taking risks and dealing with uncertainty. Through learning and discussing all of this you will not only gain fresh perspectives – you will generate new knowledge together\, inspire each other and collectively expand upon the vast landscape of entrepreneurship education. \nWORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR\nSarah Robinson is Associate Professor and Educational Anthropologist at the Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. Her interests lie in the purpose and future of Higher Education and currently\, more specifically\, in the development of pedagogy through the exploration of academic identity and enterprise education. \nMODERATOR\nThis workshop will be moderated by Karen Williams-Middleton\, PhD\, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at Chalmers University of Technology and 2022 winner of the European Entrepreneurship Education Award. \n\n\nRegistration\nThis seminar will be held via Zoom. Due to the interactive nature of the workshop there is a set number of spots available. So\, in order to secure a seat\, please sign up sooner rather than later. SUMMARY:1st Annual RENT Abstract Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to submit to RENT in Naples this year? And have you… \n\nalready planned to submit\, but need some feedback (especially if it is one of the first times that you submit to the RENT)?\nconsidered a submission\, but are not sure whether your work is a good fit for the RENT?\n\nIf any of these conditions apply to you\, join us for this year’s Abstract Writing Workshop! Together\, we will meet online via Zoom and first\, get some tips from experienced ECSB members to improve the chances of our submission. SUMMARY:ECSB Webinar with Prof. Monder Ram: "Critical engagement in diversity and entrepreneurship: Insights from the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship"
DESCRIPTION:The seismic effects of COVID-19\, Black Lives Matter and Brexit have exposed endemic racial inequalities in the UK. Policy responses are mixed but encouraging entrepreneurship amongst ethnic minority communities is likely to form part of the solution. For 20 years\, the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship (CREME) has operated at the intersection of debates on inequality and enterprise\, and worked with practitioners to ‘make a difference’. CREME’s modus operandi is to promote change with practitioners whilst pursuing theoretically informed research. This talk presents insights from the many shades of engagement that characterise CREME’s work—from stakeholder consultation on conventional research projects to the creation of new ventures to support for migrant businesses. \nAbout the speaker:\nProfessor Monder Ram OBE is the Director of the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship (CREME) at the Aston University. He is a leading authority on small business and ethnic minority entrepreneurship research and has published widely on the subject\, and has extensive experience of working in and acting as a consultant to small and ethnic minority businesses. Monder is a regular keynote speaker at international conferences\, and advises the government on the importance and value of ethnic minority businesses through his position on the APPG for BAME Business Owners. SUMMARY:ECSB Webinar "Entrepreneurship by design: a pedagogy of making for entrepreneurial education"
DESCRIPTION:Entrepreneurship by Design is a pedagogic approach to entrepreneurship education to help transform creative ideas and early-stage business concepts into viable products and services. The approach also helps designers\, inventors\, and developers adopt an entrepreneurial mindset to identify business opportunities when creating new products and technology solutions through a unique mix combining design and business development toolkits. The method aims to help both groups to reduce the gap between ideas and markets. On the entrepreneurs’ side\, the gap typically originates around either lack of sufficient user research and experimentation or deficiency in design skills. On the designers’ side\, the gap is due to the inability to identify business opportunities arising from the design process itself. The proposed method develops around a framework that combines the following ingredients:\n1. Empathy and Human-Centered Design\n2. Entrepreneurial Creativity as ambivalent mindset and collective intelligence\n3. The development of Makers’ skills grounded on prototyping and effectuation mentality\n4. Design Science: the importance of product aesthetics and the understanding of how much complexity the users want \nHuman-Centered Design help entrepreneurs find the right balance between the desirability\, technical feasibility\, and business viability of a product. Entrepreneurial Creativity supports ways to find meaningful and attractive problems and to hone creative skills through apparently inconsistent behaviors. Prototyping will push entrepreneurs outside of their comfort zone to validate their ideas or change them based on higher awareness of technical and user constraints. It will also foster an experiential approach towards entrepreneurship. Finally\, Design Science help entrepreneurs to become aware of the importance of good Design and aesthetics to improve user experience. \nSpeaker\nDr. Luca Iandoli is Associate Dean for Global and Online Programs at St. John’s University\, College of Professional Studies\, and an Professor in the Division of Computer Science\, Mathematics\, and Science. He has published +150 papers on the analysis of interfirm collaboration\, collective intelligence in online networks\, and digital entrepreneurship\, serving as a member of the editorial board of several academic journals. Dr. Iandoli’s current research focus is on collective intelligence\, interaction design\, and product aesthetics\, and their application to the development of innovative products and entrepreneurial opportunities. \nThe webinar is open to ECSB & ISBE members. SUMMARY:PDW “Please make me whole again – How to practice sustainable entrepreneurship research”
DESCRIPTION:ECSB offers an online Professional Development Workshop “Please make me whole again – How to practice sustainable entrepreneurship research” on 15 March 2022 at 10:00-12:00 CET. \nThe PDW is open to ECSB & ISBE members. Register by 11 March via the link available at the bottom of the page. If you do not have a valid ECSB members\, to join ECSB\, visit: https://ecsb.org/join-ecsb/. To join ISBE: visit https://isbe.org.uk/about-us/how-to-join/. \nPDW Description\nPDW Chairs: Sarah Dodd (Strathclyde University) and Friederike Welter (University of Siegen) \nBackground: Sustainability and entrepreneurship have been uneasy bedfellows through much of our short discipline history. Enterprise has been seen largely as a global driver for economic growth\, and for the creation of financial value through new industries and ventures. Yet our ever-present critical chorus has made considerable progress in recent years\, too\, towards sustainable entrepreneurship. This reminds us that so much of real value cannot be measured in dollars and cents\, and that entrepreneurship has the potential to be a sustaining\, stewarding\, re-energizing\, joyful\, creative force\, too. We have come to celebrate and study the smaller scale\, the frugal\, the locally responsive and embedded – a human and humane entrepreneurship which nourishes resources instead of draining them. \nBut what about us as entrepreneurship scholars? COVID 19 is but one major impact factor amongst many which have\, perhaps ironically\, made our research less sustaining of ourselves\, whilst we simultaneously embrace the principles of sustainable entrepreneurship for other peoples and places. \nWhat can we learn from these new insights\, and these everyday entrepreneurs\, that can be brought into our own practices? How can we transform entrepreneurship research into a practice which also nurtures our passions\, peoples\, and places? How can we\, reflexively\, develop and lead sustainable entrepreneurship scholarship that feeds our own minds\, bodies and souls? How can we ourselves enact and manifest the virtues and values of sustainable entrepreneurship that we strive to understand and promote in the lives of others? How do we cope with the ever-increasing demands of our profession on our worktime\, and the growing volume of outputs to be delivered? How do we engage in self-care? These are some of the questions we want to explore in our PDW. \nWe believe these questions to be of great importance for the future of individual research careers as well as for the academic system as a whole. Research is\, for most of us and most of the times\, a dream career. We are privileged in combining passion and work. On the other hands\, institutional demands and expectations have grown tremendously\, and excellence is anticipated across all three of our missions. The pandemic has highlighted the numerous competing – if not outright conflicting – demands of our research careers. Junior and early career scholars faced difficulties in making the next career step. Those involved in family care juggled too many responsibilities at the same time. All of this had or will have an impact on ourselves\, our research and our professional future. \nTherefore\, we suggest it is time to begin acting more like sustainable entrepreneurs within our own research practice\, learning from our own research results\, and building new ways of being and becoming sustainable entrepreneurship scholars\, including ourselves within that circle of creative care. \nTarget groups: entrepreneurship scholars at different stages of their career\, looking for learning and networking opportunities to apply their research results / advice to entrepreneurs to their own working lives\, and those of the researchers they nurture. \nOutline of the PDW: Participants will be asked to “bring” along with them digital postcards which represent and illustrate their experiences (insights\, learnings and visions) as to what self-sustaining entrepreneurship research might mean to each of them. In groups of 5-6 people\, each participant will have 3 minutes to share these images and insights. \nGroups will then be invited to each co-create a virtual bricolage of self-sustaining entrepreneurship research\, from their postcards and other sources. \nAfter a short break\, the second hour of the workshop will see participants reflecting on themes and patterns emerging from the bricolage gallery. These will be consolidated into a single word co-created cloud\, before participants are challenged to begin outlining a research agenda for this area. \nRegister by 11 March 2022: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUvc-Cqrj8vG9a72f2xYAKNCvFuisgyfibB

SUMMARY:Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research
DESCRIPTION:This paper development workshop (PDW) aims to support scholars who are working on experiments as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nAlthough studies using experimental designs are a great way to establish causal relations\, designing\, conducting\, and analyzing experiments is not an easy undertaking. To support early career scholars in this endeavor\, the University of Groningen Centre of Entrepreneurship (UGCE) organizes a paper development workshop in partnership with the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB). \nSubmission Deadline – January 7th 2022
