DESCRIPTION:The Faculty of Economics and Business in Osijek\, Croatia  (EFOS) is pleased to announce the 13th International Scientific Conference “Region\, Entrepreneurship\, Development” (RED)\, which is scheduled for June 6 and 7\, 2024. \nThe aim of this conference is to bring together scientists and experts involved in the study of economic and social development\, to promote the exchange of opinions and ideas and to provide practical recommendations for economic and social practice. \nKeynote speaker of the conference will be Professor Dr. Leo-Paul Dana\,  distinguished entrepreneurship scholar\, ranked number 1 Entrepreneurship Scientist in Canada in 2023 and also in France. He is among  the most cited authors in the area of entrepreneurship and business in many high ranked journals such as Journal of World Business\, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice\, Journal of Business Research\, etc. \nThe RED conference is also organizing two very interesting workshops in collaboration with AACSB and the European Commission and Technopolis ltd. \nThe workshop “From Accreditation to Action: Transforming Universities with AACSB“ will focus on the benefits and opportunities of AACSB accreditation. The workshop will be led by Ron Tuninga\, Vice President and Managing Director for the Europe\, Middle East and Africa Region\, AACSB International and Natalia Ilina\, Accreditation and Member Services Manager AACSB International. \nThe workshop\, “HEInnovate for Modern Higher Education”\, presents a unique opportunity for scholars to explore tools and examples that transform universities into innovative and entrepreneurial institutions. SUMMARY:7th Paper Development Seminar (7PDS)
DESCRIPTION:The 7th Paper Development Seminar (7PDS) aims to help participants develop research results into papers that may be suitable for publication in top-tier academic journals. The 7PDS is Co-organized with GEM-Spain (Observatorio del Emprendimiento de España\, www.gem-spain.com). \nPapers/proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. We are open to any contributions analysing the entrepreneurial process\, may they be conceptual or empirical and\, in this latter case\, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal\, but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods. \nAdditionally\, the 7PDS is associated with the InsEnt SIGs “Institutions and Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group” at ECSB (https://ecsb.org/insent-sig/). A special session will be devoted to the role of Institutions in Entrepreneurship. \nSubmissions will be peer-reviewed. Those deemed of highest potential by the organizing committee will be invited to participate. Selected participants will be offered the opportunity to submit a full paper (if they did not do so initially). Extended abstracts may also be presented at the seminar. The objective is to develop a productive and intimate work environment. SUMMARY:3E 2024 Conference
DESCRIPTION:Through an innovative and non-traditional format\, the 3E Conference establishes a new paradigm for entrepreneurship conferences. It offers an inclusive setting to fully collaborate with researchers\, educators and policymakers to debate and exchange the best practices\, the major challenges and novel advances in entrepreneurship education with a special and unique focus on Europe. Unlike more traditional academic events\, this conference puts the spotlight in problems and questions; the format is ‘unplugged’ without power point presentations. Instead\, engaging round table discussions are held with participants who have read papers beforehand. Further\, the keynote speakers are chosen from among the best submission of the participants. \n\nConference theme: Entrepreneurship Education – a playground for impact \n\nOver the past years\, Entrepreneurship Education (EE) has increasingly become more mature in its theory and practice. Yet\, it has not lost its playfulness and its willingness to try out new things. We believe EE can and should be seen as a playground for educators\, scholars\, and students; and continue to invite innovative action and experimentation. At the same time\, this led to a variety of challenges and contexts for players to solve through creativity\, interaction and mutual learning. That is why this edition encourages the 3E community to present novel solutions to encourage tilting EE towards social development\, mental and physical wellbeing\, and sustainability. We need to promote innovation\, creativity as well as responsible risk-taking. And most importantly\, we need to think of what we want our students to learn\, what our students want to learn\, and how they best learn.  Therefore\, we welcome contributions that present\, explore and question the playfulness of EE in relation towards social and sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives. \nWho should attend?\nPotential participants include entrepreneurship education educators and researchers\, research-based educators from primary\, secondary\, and higher institutions\, practitioners involved in entrepreneurship support programs including trainers\, policy makers and program managers\, and special interest group representatives from local or international organisations. \nAbout the program and the venues\nThe 3E Conference program will include three interactive days in the city of Amsterdam\, mainly in the vicinity of the AUAS Amstel Campus. SUMMARY:Educator Workshop: What to Teach in Entrepreneurship Education
DESCRIPTION:In the dynamic field of entrepreneurship education\, one challenge looms especially large for its educators: the question of content. What exactly should be taught? With entrepreneurship education in continuous high demand\, universities are encouraged to provide more and varied programmes that cater to the diverse interests of students and the changing demands of society. Deciding what to teach has thus become increasingly complex\, reflecting the need for a curriculum that is both relevant and adaptive. \nThis workshop\, led by Dr. Colette Henry\, offers a fresh perspective on selecting educational content. It considers the needs of the entrepreneurship educator against the backdrop of an ever-changing global landscape\, marked by shifts in social\, economic\, environmental\, and technological factors. \nThe workshop aims to examine the role of the contemporary entrepreneurship educator with a focus on overcoming the challenge of content selection. SUMMARY:Teaching Entrepreneurship in degrowth economics: Exploring the potential and challenging the limits
DESCRIPTION:What would entrepreneurship look like in a world where economics was the science of social provisioning within material boundaries\, as is the case for degrowth economics? And how might we convey such an approach through our teaching in Entrepreneurship Education\, where we aim to inspire students for a transformed future? \nThis panel discussion explores the nature\, potential\, and limits of entrepreneurship education in degrowth economics. Post-consumerist values\, planetary limits to economic growth\, and the localization of value chains challenge conventional beliefs about economic growth including key assumptions in the present capitalistic system and promotes a paradigm shift towards degrowth. Despite the momentum toward degrowth\, educational approaches\, teaching methods\, and tools in entrepreneurship education remain anchored in growth-centric ideologies\, like green growth or sustainable growth. This raises critical questions: Can alternative paradigms find a place in entrepreneurship education? Are the established teaching principles still relevant\, or is a fundamental redesign necessary? How can these changes be practically incorporated into the educational landscape? \nThis ECSB co-branded panel discussion facilitates a critical discussion about the intersection of entrepreneurship education and degrowth by exploring both the potential and limits of a degrowth pedagogy in entrepreneurship education. DESCRIPTION:An event with Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Liverpool to explore the relationship between – and need for action regarding – Enterprise Education and Planetary Sustainability. \nWednesday 13 December 2023\, 2.15 – 4.15pm UTC +1\n \nSummary\nThis online event draws from research and action developed last year through an EEUK EERPF project – ‘Enterprise Education and Planetary Sustainability: What can EE do?’ \nThe session will start with a keynote from Dr Matteo Giusti\, a Future Fellow in Sustainability Science from the University of Surrey. His research looks at human-nature relationships at the individual and social scale to understand how modern civilisations might regenerate themselves towards a more sustainable future. Matteo leads a research programme on “Cultural Shifts on Sustainable Systems” at the Institute for Sustainability to produce knowledge\, policy recommendations\, and creative works that make sustainability the new normal. His keynote presentation will set the scene for the session by focusing on the fundamental drivers of unsustainable development and how our shared culture and relationship with nature has transformational potential. This will go at the core of the links between Enterprise Education and Planetary Sustainability. \nFollowing this\, insights and results from the EEUK/EERPF project ‘Enterprise Education and Planetary Sustainability: What can EE do?’ will be shared. SUMMARY:8th Effectuation Conference: Building the Global Effectual Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Effectuation is at the vanguard of entrepreneurship research and practice as a scientifically validated method that arms aspiring entrepreneurs with a toolkit to design bold\, creative\, and unexpected solutions. In our post-pandemic world where global challenges threaten to upend our lives with unprecedented crises\, teaching effectuation as means to forge better entrepreneurs was never this urgent. \nThe 8th effectuation conference theme is “Building the Global Effectual Classroom”. We invite authors to submit their work and come to the conference to engage in a discussion about bringing teaching\, practice\, and research by leveraging our global community with a presence in all five continents. Besides the traditional conference discussion\, we will host a mastermind of both experienced and new researcher/educators aiming to launch a global research consortium that blends scientific rigor\, empirical relevance\, and impact. \nCo-branded with ECSB and scheduled in tandem with the RENT Conference\, the 2023 Effectuation Conference will take place in Gdansk\, Poland. DESCRIPTION:PhD Workshop at Leuphana University Lüneburg: Ethnographic Methods to Study Organizations and Entrepreneurship on 23-24 October 2023\nThis PhD Workshop (sponsored by the ECSB) focuses on equipping junior scholars with fundamental skills in conducting ethnographic fieldwork and providing a space for reflective interaction. \nContent and Learning Objectives\nThe workshop is divided into two days\, the first laying the foundations of ethnographic methods in the field of organization and entrepreneurship studies\, while the second highlights the ‘doing’ of ethnography. The workshop covers a general introduction to ethnography and its uses in organization and entrepreneurship studies\, discusses core readings and exemplary studies\, highlights the methodological specificities and ethical challenges\, and explores the practicalities of doing fieldwork and producing and publishing ethnographic articles e.g.\, with the use of vignettes. Additionally\, participants are encouraged to bring their own research project and present and discuss it with the group.\nAfter this course\, the participants have an understanding of key uses and misuses of ethnographic methods within organization and entrepreneurship studies\, have an understanding of their role as ethnographers in the field\, are able to design studies relying on ethnographic methods and approaches\, and have an understanding of existing strategies to communicate their findings in academic articles. \nParticipants\nThe course is open to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers that have a basic understanding of qualitative research methods and ethnography and conduct research on organizations or entrepreneurship. SUMMARY:Online workshop: Crafting spaces for entrepreneurial learning
DESCRIPTION:Considering the significance of innovation and creativity in entrepreneurship\, crafting spaces that inspire students is something that universities have rightly started to prioritise. But what really makes a space inspiring? How can physical environments be conducive to new ideas? \nThe objective of this online workshop is to investigate the factors that contribute to the innovativeness of a space and discover how that space encourages entrepreneurial activity. Elusive as they may be\, these factors have been studied and this workshop\, led by Luke Pittaway\, will uncover the most relevant research findings and methodologies on understanding and harnessing their influence. \nDuring the workshop\, participants will: \n\nGain insights into how physical infrastructure actively contributes to fostering innovation and driving entrepreneurial outcomes\nFocus on the different forms and types of spaces that have been developed within the United States and examine the roles they play\nExplore a step by step guide for assessing and designing new physical infrastructure for entrepreneurship on university campuses\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\nDr. Pittaway is the Copeland Professor of Entrepreneurship at Ohio University and a Justin G. Longenecker Fellow at USASBE. His research focuses on entrepreneurship education and learning and he has a range of other interests\, including entrepreneurial behavior\, networking\, entrepreneurial failure\, business growth\, and corporate venturing. In 2018\, Dr. Pittaway was nominated and selected to be USASBE’s Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year. \nPARTICIPATION\nThe workshop is open free-of-charge to educators from all universities and disciplines. DESCRIPTION:Climate Tipping Points and Social Tipping Points \nThis online event provides an opportunity for those involved in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education and Support (EEES) to (re)consider their work in relation to unfolding climate and ecological breakdown and reflect on how their practice can develop and adapt. \nAttendees will hear from Professor Tim Lenton\, Founding Director of the Global System’s Institute at the University of Exeter\, whose research involves understanding the earth as a system\, modelling climate tipping points and identifying positive tipping points towards sustainability. \nFollowing this\, two new projects which aim to contribute to positive tipping points towards sustainability in EEES are introduced. \nCatherine Brentnall\, from the University of Huddersfield\, and Dr David Higgins\, from the University of Liverpool\, will introduce a research project ‘Enterprise Education and Planetary Sustainability: what can EE do?’\, funded by Enterprise Educators UK (EEUK). This project is harnessing the system change perspective of emergence (Holman\, 2010)\, to develop a process and workshop intervention to catalyse new connections\, conversations and action towards sustainability in Enterprise Education. \nSerxia Lage Arias\, from IES Fernando Wirtz\, will introduce the TrEE project (Transforming Enterprise Education)\, a collaboration between 6 universities\, funded by the European Union. The TrEE project proposes that Enterprise Education decouple itself from (high growth) businesses and instead put its (creative) potential to work to enact more just futures for people and planet. DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, the field of entrepreneurship education research has developed significantly. The theme for the first 3E – ECSB Entrepreneurship Education – Conference in Aarhus 2013 was “Rethinking Entrepreneurship Education\, Training and Policy: The questions we care about.” The ambition was to create a conference on entrepreneurship education that broadened the concepts of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education beyond the traditional venture creation and business school domains and to welcome scholars from education\, pedagogy\, and learning to integrate their education research with entrepreneurship. Since then\, the 3E conferences have brought together scholars and educators from a broad variety of educational institutions and disciplinary backgrounds\, and continuously serve as a central European platform for the exchange and creation of knowledge in entrepreneurship education. \nThrough an innovative and non-traditional format\, the 3E Conference establishes a different paradigm for entrepreneurship conferences. It offers an exclusive and engaging opportunity for researchers\, educators\, and politicians to debate and exchange their experiences of the major challenges and advances in enterprise education with a special and unique focus on Europe. Unlike more traditional academic events\, the conference focuses on problems and questions rather than on solutions and presentations of research findings. DESCRIPTION:Call for papers / proposals: “Entrepreneurship Process Research” \nThe objective of the 6th Paper Development Seminar is to help participants develop research results into papers that may be suitable for publication in top-tier academic journals. The 6th paper development seminar is co-organized with GEM-Spain (Observatorio del Emprendimiento de España\, www.gem-spain.com). \nPapers/proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. We are open to any contributions analysing the entrepreneurial process\, may they be conceptual or empirical and\, in this latter case\, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal\, but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods. \nSubmissions will be peer-reviewed. Those deemed of highest potential by the organizing committee will be invited to participate. Selected participants will be offered the opportunity to submit a full paper (if they did not do so initially). Extended abstracts may also be presented at the seminar. The objective is to develop a productive and intimate work environment. For this reason\, we will limit the number of proposals/papers to be accepted into the seminar to a maximum of 20. \nECSB supports the 6th Paper Development Seminar in Entrepreneurship Process Research through the ECSB Event Fund initiative. SUMMARY:Educator Workshop: Innovative pedagogy for sustainable entrepreneurship education
DESCRIPTION:If our collective goal is a more sustainable present and future\, we must manifest\, encourage and impart values that contribute towards that goal. – Yona Sipos et al. p.70 \nWith the great power of teaching comes great responsibility—not just for the students\, but for all the things that education can and should change. Sustainability is one of those things\, and perhaps more so in entrepreneurship education than any other discipline. Future entrepreneurs have the possibility to truly transform our society into a more sustainable one\, and it is up to those of us who educate them to provide them with the right tools and conditions to make that possibility a reality. That is why this workshop will introduce the theory and methods of entrepreneurship education with a focus on sustainable entrepreneurship. \nDrawing from her many years of experience in the field\, Dr Rita Klapper will lead the workshop with a holistic and collaborative approach\, taking theoretical inspiration from John Shotter’s phenomenology of insider perspectives as well as the Head\, Hands\, and Heart principle put forward by Yona Sipos et al. in 2008. The workshop will familiarise participants with these concepts and a range of examples of how they have been applied in the context of sustainable entrepreneurship education. \nThe workshop aims to achieve the following:\n\nFamiliarise the participants with Sipos et al’s (2008) umbrella concept of Head\, Hands and Heart\nProvide examples of how this holistic approach has been applied by Dr Rita Klapper in the field of (sustainable) entrepreneurship education\nHelp participants critically reflect on their own educational practices to engage learners in the three dimensions\nDevelop together with the participants ideas for further application and research\n\nBreakout rooms will be available to further explore the topics of the workshop in smaller groups of participants. \nWORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR\nDr Rita Klapper is (Associate) Research Professor for Entrepreneurship and Sustainability at IDRAC Business School in Lyon\, France\, and holds a Visiting Professor position at IREES\, the Institute for Integrated Research on Energy\, Environment and Society at the University of Groningen. \nMODERATOR\nGustav Hägg holds a PhD from Lund University\, Sweden within the research field of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial learning focused on how reflective thinking could become more integrated in the learning process of students’ entrepreneurs. SUMMARY:ECSB Webinar "Stressors\, recovery and well-being of entrepreneurs"
DESCRIPTION:There is an increasing interest in entrepreneurs’ resilience and well-being from researchers and practitioners alike. This is because entrepreneurs’ resilience and ‘happiness’ relate to their creativity\, productivity\, and their business’ success (e.g.\, Stephan\, 2018; Wach\, Stephan\, Weinberger\, & Wegge\, 2020; Weinberger\, Wach\, Stephan\, & Wegge\, 2018). The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this interest. For instance\, our international project “Supporting Entrepreneurship during the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Global Study of Entrepreneurs’ Resilience and Well-being” documented the profound threat to entrepreneurs’ well-being and their businesses stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic. While entrepreneurs were occasionally thriving\, most struggled with increased stress and impaired mental well-being. Many lacked strategies to protect their well-being and some gave up eventually their businesses because of it. Existing research into recovery documents its positive effects but also highlights how difficult it can be to engage in recovery when work is particularly stressful (Sonnentag\, 2018). This presentation will show newly initiated research agenda on entrepreneurs’ recovery (Wach et al.\, 2020\, Weinberger et al.\, 2018; Williamson\, Gish\, & Stephan\, 2021)\, that is moving from documenting challenges in entrepreneurs’ well-being to implementing and testing recovery strategies to help enhance entrepreneurs’ well-being and their resilience. In this regard\, preliminary findings will be given about intervention to equip entrepreneurs with so-called recovery strategies\, i.e. strategies that are proven to aid recovery from work stress and thereby allow entrepreneurs to safeguard their well-being. \nAbout the speaker:\nDominika Wach is researcher and lecturer in the department of Work and Organizational Psychology at Technische Universität Dresden\, Germany. Her specialties are entrepreneurship and occupational health. Amongst others\, she published her research in Journal of Business Venturing\, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice\, Journal of Small Business Management\, and International Small Business Journal. Dr. Wach was a head of a Polish partner institution and research team in research projects on success factors of SMEs in Germany\, Czech Republic\, and Poland funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and she has published on the topic of entrepreneurial performance\, well-being\, and recovery. Finally\, research opportunities\, special issues and conferences will be shared. \nAbout the speaker:\nDr. Christina Theodoraki is an Associate Professor in entrepreneurship and strategic management at TBS Education (in Toulouse\, France)\, affiliate professor at the International University of Monaco\, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Development Strategies at the University of Indiana and Business Development Manager at the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Research Network. DESCRIPTION:ECSB or ISBE Members\, wlecome to join the ECSB Webinar with Dr. Eric Liguori. \nThe topic of the webinar: Musings on Entrepreneurship Education: what we teach\, how we teach\, opportunities for the future\, and a few causes for caution \nBio: Eric Liguori is the Founding Head of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Rowan University where he holds the Rohrer Chair of Entrepreneurship in the William G. Rohrer College of Business. He serves as Executive Director of the Rowan Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and on the screening committee for Rowan’s $25M Innovation Venture Fund. In 2019 he became the youngest person ever elected to serve as President of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship\, the largest academic organization dedicated to advancing entrepreneurship education through bold teaching\, scholarship\, and practice. Currently\, Liguori serves as the Managing Editor of the Journal of Small Business Management and Executive Editor of Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy. In 2021 Liguori was named a Justin G. Longenecker Fellow of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship\, the organization’s highest honor\, for his “outstanding contribution to the development\, furtherance and benefit of small and medium businesses.” Liguori’s work has been published in leading outlets including Journal of Management\, Small Business Economics\, Journal of Small Business Management\, Journal of Business Research\, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development\, and International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior and Research. His work has been featured in media outlets including USA Today\, U.S. News and World Report\, Forbes.com\, and BuzzFeed. \nNOTE! ECSB/ISBE webinars are open to both ECSB and ISBE members. Drawing from his 25 years of experience in running and researching venture creation programmes\, Professors Mats Lundqvist (Chalmers University of Technology) will give you valuable insights into the characteristics\, challenges\, and possibilities that come with launching such careers. The workshop will be moderated by Dave Jarman.
