SUMMARY:ESU 2021 Conference and Doctoral Program
DESCRIPTION:ESU CONCEPT \nThe aim of ESU is to strengthen European research traditions and networks in entrepreneurship by focusing on both scholarly sessions as well as on the culture and heritage the hosting country and region has to offer. \nESU also provides a friendly setting for junior scholars to interact and build ties within the research community\, and to learn important skills for their future careers. Supervisors\, researchers and PhD students from international institutions\, active in entrepreneurship research and education\, come together to share experiences and create new international networks\, in a friendly environment. \nESU Doctoral Program is organized in the following format: \nPlenary sessions on specific topics with keynote speakers who will inspire you and invite critical reflection on a variety of topics related to entrepreneurship: interesting topics\, innovative methodologies\, publication process\, among other. \nGroup discussions and presentations where you will have the opportunity to present your work\, discuss the work from peers and receive feedback from experienced scholars. \nThere will be three groups for the doctoral program: \n\nEarly stage group: Students in this group have not started their PhD studies or are in their first year. They present their research proposals.\nWork in progress group: Students in this group are in the middle of their PhD studies and will present their early phase research.\nMature group: Students in this group have completed their PhD research and will present their results papers.\n\nParticipating in the ESU Doctoral Program and all its tasks grants you up to 6 ECTS. Please consult the detailed overview of tasks in this link: Syllabus Hybrid program. \nIn addition to the Doctoral Program\, the ESU Conference offers regular conference tracks open to all attendees. All the presentations will take place on Conference Day\, Wednesday September 1. In particular\, we invite submissions from: \n\nPostdocs: they hold a postdoctoral position. They are invited to present their own paper and perform as a discussant in conference sessions. They may also be invited to act as junior coaches for PhD students\, and they have some dedicated group presentations.\nProfessors: they hold an academic position (permanent or on tenure track). They are invited to present their own paper in conference sessions. They may be invited as senior coaches for PhD students in the group sessions and act\, in some cases\, as keynote in plenary sessions.\n\nFORMAT \nDue to the uncertain circumstances created by the pandemic\, the format of ESU 2021 is being defined following closely the information released daily about the pandemic. Currently\, the organizers are exploring the possibility of organizing the conference in a hybrid format: a limited number of participants who are willing and are allowed to be present in Groningen\, The Netherlands\, will attend ESU in person on site; the participants who are not willing or are not allowed to travel to Groningen but would still like to participate in ESU 2021 will follow the program online. \nCOLLABORATION WITH ECSB \nESU 2021 has the support of the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB). Every year\, ESU hands out a best paper award per Doctoral program group. The winners of the best paper award (the first author of each paper) receive a one-year PhD membership at ECSB\, which grants access to the network and to the different initiatives organized throughout the year such as webinars\, paper development workshops\, and access to information about the network’s main conferences. \nIMPORTANT DATES \nApril 16: Deadline for abstract submissions\nJuly 4: Deadline for full paper submission\nJuly 15: Deadline for early bird registration \nABSTRACT SUBMISSION \nFor both Doctoral Program and Conference: max. 500 words abstracts\, single spaced\, Times New Roman 12pt\, capitalized first letters in title\, no more than ten words in title\, no reference list. Since all abstracts are reviewed using a double-blind review process\, it is compulsory that neither names nor contact details appear on the text (besides in the appropriate fields of the template). \nA template of the abstract is available here (Abstract Template)\, and we ask you to use it for your submission. \nPlease send your abstract by email to: entrepreneurship@rug.nl

SUMMARY:3E Conference 2021 in Trondheim
DESCRIPTION:Through an innovative and non-traditional format\, the 3E Conference establishes a new paradigm for entrepreneurship conferences. It offers an exclusive and engaging opportunity for researchers\, educators and politicians to debate and exchange their experiences of the major challenges and advances in enterprise education with a special and unique focus on Europe. Unlike more traditional academic events\, the conference will focus on problems and questions rather than on ready-made solutions and presentations of research findings. There are no keynote speakers to tell us the way but we will pave it ourselves in a joint effort! \n\n\n\nConference theme: Developing entrepreneurial mindsets through education \n\n\n\nVISIT 3E TRONDHEIM

SUMMARY:IV Paper Development Seminar Virtual Edition 2021
DESCRIPTION:Call for papers / proposals: “Entrepreneurship Process Research” \nThis 4th edition of the Paper Development Seminar (4PDS) will be held virtually in April 2021. \nPapers / proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. We are open to any contributions analysing the entrepreneurial process\, may they be conceptual or empirical and\, in this latter case\, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal\, but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods. \nSubmissions will be peer reviewed. Those deemed of highest potential by the organizing committee will be invited to participate. Selected participants will be offered the opportunity to submit a full paper (if they did not do so initially). Extended abstracts may also be presented at the seminar. The objective is to develop a productive and intimate work environment. For this reason\, we will limit the number of proposals/papers to be presented\, to a maximum of 20. \nThe European Council for Small Business (ECSB) supports the 4th Paper Development Seminar in Entrepreneurship Process Research as a co-branded event. The ECSB will award a free one-year membership to the presenting author of the best paper/proposal presented at the 4PDS as well as a fast track submission to the RENT2021 Conference. \nThe deadline for the submission of papers / proposals is 31 January 2021. \nThere is no specific format or template to follow. However\, in the case of proposals\, a minimum of 1500 words is required\, including aims\, theoretical framework\, methodology and findings (if applicable)\, implications and contribution. Submissions will be made by email to entrepreneurs@us.es \nGiven the virtual format of this seminar\, and thanks to the generous support of the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS)\, the registration is free of charge for the authors of accepted submissions. \n

SUMMARY:Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research Second Paper Development Workshop for Early-Career Scholars
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WORKSHOP\nExperimental designs provide a powerful lens to determine causality and have been labeled “the most rigorous of all research designs”. However\, relatively few entrepreneurship studies use an experimental design. Recently\, several calls have been made for more experimental studies in entrepreneurship research. \nIn this online paper development workshop (PDW)\, we aim to support scholars who are working on experiments as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nAlthough studies using experimental designs are a great way to establish causal relations\, designing\, conducting\, and analyzing experiments is not an easy undertaking. To support early career scholars in this endeavor\, the University of Groningen Centre of Entrepreneurship (UGCE) organizes a paper development workshop in partnership with the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB). In this workshop\, we aim to support and bring together early career scholars who are working with experimental designs in entrepreneurship research. \nSUBMISSIONS\nTo apply for participation in the workshop\, please submit your work until January 20th\, 2021. \nThe workshop welcomes two types of submissions:\nA. Full working paper: studies that have been fully carried out and the paper is at the writing\nstage.\nB. Design stage papers: studies at the methodological design phase. \nSee more information on the call as well as the workshop website.

SUMMARY:EE Explore on Unsettling Entrepreneurship Education
DESCRIPTION:EE Explore is a series of online events in entrepreneurship education organized jointly with ECSB and Engage\, the host of 3E2021 Conference. \nThis event will build on a recent Special Issue in Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy (EE&P)\, vol. 3\, issue 3. A link to the SI https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2515127420921480 \nIn this Special Issue\, authors reflect on and resist the tendency to see students as consumers with the ‘right’ to take part in entrepreneurship education and to effectively shape their enterprising selves. The necessity to keep on reflecting on unsettling entrepreneurship education became apparent also through the ongoing present-day Covid-19 crisis\, which suddenly changed the pedagogical scene and put forward the need to move our pedagogical aspirations of unsettling to a digital platform and online teaching. To frame the need for continuous reflection\, we suggest that this crisis can teach us something as valuable as ‘standing still’\, and can help us to reconsider what kind of entrepreneurial society we build together with our students via entrepreneurship education. Perhaps there is a need not to unsettle but rather ‘resettle’ society\, and entrepreneurship education\, into a new direction? \nThe facilitators will be Karin Berglund\, Ulla Hytti & Karen Verduijn. \nRegistration deadline: Monday 25th January 2021 (by 11.30 pm CET) \nRegistration link: https://www.eventbrite.fi/e/ee-explore-unsettling-entrepreneurship-education-registration-132944439397 \nWhen registering\, please indicate what you would like to bring and/or take from the workshop\, thank you.

DESCRIPTION:Due to COVID-19 the conference will take place in virtual format. \nConference theme: “Entrepreneurship in the Digital Era” \nDigital entrepreneurship is defined as creating new ventures and transforming existing businesses by developing novel digital technologies and/or adopting a novel usage of such technologies. The increasingly digitalized environment has led to a changed living situation characterized by economic growth\, job creation and innovation\, and opened new possibilities to train the next generation of entrepreneurs creating new possibilities for anyone thinking of becoming an entrepreneur. SUMMARY:PDW: Developing Responsible and Sustainable Innovations in Entrepreneurship Education – Introducing the Sandbox Approach
DESCRIPTION:Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) are workshops to share knowledge and expertise and foster practical\, professional and intellectual skills of participants. PDWs were included in the RENT pre-conference day programme for the first time in RENT XXIX in Zagreb 2015. The concept proved to be successful and PDWs have been part of the pre-conference day since then. Due to COVID-19\, ECSB will offer to its members virtual PDWs in 2020-2021.  \nVirtual PDW: Developing Responsible and Sustainable Innovations in Entrepreneurship Education – Introducing the Sandbox Approach on 11 November 2020 (the date TBC)\nOrganisers\nVerena Meyer\, PhD Student and Research Associate\, Leuphana University of Lüneburg\, Institute of Management and Organization – verena.meyer@leuphana.de\nFlavio Pinheiro Martins\, Student at University of Sao Paulo\, School of Economics\, Business Administration and Accounting at Ribeirão Preto – fpmartins@usp.br\nProf. Dr. Markus Reihlen\, Vice President (Graduate School\, Young Academics & Entrepreneurship) and Professor of Strategic Management at Leuphana University of Lüneburg as well as International Research Fellow at the Said Business School\, University of Oxford – reihlen@leuphana.de\nFabian Pleß\, PhD Student and Research Associate\, Leuphana University of Lüneburg\, Institute of Management and Organization – fabian.pless@leuphana.de\nYasmin Azim Zadeh\, Research Associate\, Leuphana University of Lüneburg\, Cooperation and Transfer Service – azimzade@leuphana.de \nAbstract\nAs entrepreneurship educators\, we typically bring together students as entrepreneurial teams and let them work on their own ideas. But how could we get these students to tackle global challenges and develop sustainable ideas? One key mechanism is open innovation. To make use of this\, entrepreneurship education concepts need to bridge the perspectives of multiple stakeholders. Developing innovation communities within a framework of an open innovation process presents a suitable approach with a possible long-term impact in this regard. The ‘Sandbox Approach’ combines a structured open innovation process while fostering an innovation community which is enabled to solve regional challenges. In this professional development workshop\, participants will experience the ‘Sandbox Approach’ at first hand and develop comprehensive concepts for their common challenges. \nWorkshop Objectives \n\nIntroduce the Sandbox Approach\nExperience the efficiency of structured open innovation processes as well as how innovation communities function by accounting for a multitude of perspectives\nReflect on challenges that hinder innovativeness in everyday work and develop first ideas and more comprehensive solutions for these challenges\nDiscuss ideas to combine open innovation processes with innovation communities and reflecting on one’s own role within these processes/communities\nReflect on own roles as researchers and educators to foster responsible and sustainable innovation\nDiscuss the transfer of this learning experience to other contexts in which sustainable innovations within certain constraints are crucial\n\nMain audience\nThe workshop offers insights from the field of innovation to offer a broadening of perspectives. The main content of this workshop best aligns with conference tracks #2 (How to develop entrepreneurial skills? The role of education) and #7 (Entrepreneurship education\, learning\, and knowledge dissemination)\, but also strives towards an integration of concepts from tracks #16 and #17\, as social and sustainable entrepreneurship are also relevant perspectives in the workshop context. As such\, the workshop can be of interest to the broad RENT community. \n

SUMMARY:ECSB Webinar with Mauri Laukkanen on Causal mapping
DESCRIPTION:Causal (aka cognitive) mapping methods provide an accessible approach to exploring social actors’\, e.g.\, entrepreneurs’\, knowledge and belief systems (mental models)\, known to significantly influence respective behaviours. The webinar is an introduction to the conceptual basis and methods of causal mapping\, in particular comparative causal mapping (CCM) using CMAP3\, a dedicated (free) CCM application. The webinar’s topics are: \n\nConceptual underpinnings and methodological issues in causal mapping.\nMain variants of causal mapping.\nCCM in practice: data elicitation\, processing and analysis using CMAP3.\nUsing CCM: revealing micro entrepreneurs’ and small business advisors’ core beliefs.\nPotential research topic/types for CCM.\n\nSpeaker:\nMauri Laukkanen is Professor emeritus at the University of Eastern Finland’s Business School\, Kuopio Campus. He received his PhD (DBA) at the Helsinki School of Economics in 1989. He served at the HSE (now Aalto University Business School) and the Universities of Vaasa and Jyväskylä before UEF\, where he contributed to founding the Department of Business/Business School and headed it in 1995-2002. His research and publications focus on entrepreneurship education and counselling\, local economic development\, managerial cognition and causal mapping methods\, which he is currently using to understand the evolution of nascent micro entrepreneurs’ belief systems. He lives in Lahti\, Finland. \nNOTE! The webinar is open to both ECSB and ISBE members. To become an ECSB member and join the ECSB community visit https://ecsb.org/join-ecsb/. SUMMARY:III Paper Development Seminar --> POSTPONED TO AUTUMN 2020
DESCRIPTION:This 3rd edition of the Paper Development Seminar (3PDS) will be held in Seville in April 2020. The 3PDS aims at helping the participants to develop their research into manuscripts appropriate for submission to top-level academic journals. To achieve this objective\, the seminar will include the participation of renowned scholars specialized in entrepreneurship\, who will present some of their most recent research on the analysis of the entrepreneurial process\, as well as reviewing and commenting on the papers/proposals sent by the participants. These are scholars holding key positions (editor in chief\, associate editor) at top-level journals (JCR or similar). \nPapers / proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. The term “entrepreneurial process” describes a variety of stages ranging from the consideration of a possible start-up to the consolidation of the firm. Several models have identified a series of phases that end up with the creation/growth of a new venture (cf. DeTienne\, 2010). Reynolds and White (1997) consider the entrepreneurial process as consisting of four distinct phases — conception (potential entrepreneurs)\, gestation (nascent entrepreneurs)\, infancy (fledging new firms)\, and adolescence (established new firms). Korunka et al. (2003)\, in turn\, refer to the entrepreneurial process as one that begins with the nascent entrepreneur and ends with the creation of the new venture. Entrepreneurship is as very complex process (Gartner et al.\, 2004). Taking the process view\, entrepreneurship presents dynamic behaviours experimented under certain environmental conditions where opportunities and business ideas come from (Jack and Anderson\, 2002). We are open to any contributions to analysing the entrepreneurial process\, may they be conceptual or empirical and\, in this latter case\, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods. \nDeadline for submissions: 15 December 2019.\nCall for papers\, incl. submission instructions\, draft programme\, keynote speakers

SUMMARY:RENT Conference 2019 in Berlin
DESCRIPTION:RENT XXXIII  will take place in Berlin\, Germany\nThe 2019 Conference Main Theme is : \n“Embracing uncertainty: entrepreneurship as a key capability for the 21st century”  \nConference Chairpersons: \nRené Mauer\, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation & Yi Jiang\, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship (Jean-Baptiste Say Institute for Entrepreneurship\, ESCP Europe\, Berlin\, Germany) Entrepreneurship offers unique insights for engaging with uncertainty. In entrepreneurship and innovation practice\, we are now facing the constant beating of the digital transformation drum\, while in entrepreneurship research more and more contributions are putting an emphasis on uncertainty. Several entrepreneurial approaches (e.g. effectuation\, bricolage\, improvisation\, impulsive behavior) have recently been identified as ground-breaking models of our field\, coupled with different tools (e.g. business modeling\, lean startup\, design thinking) and various empirical contexts (e.g. high-growth\, sustainable\, or newcomer entrepreneurship). Join us for RENT 2019 at ESCP Europe Berlin in advancing the field of entrepreneurship by discussing and challenging uncertainty as a cornerstone of a proprietary entrepreneurship theory. \nRENT conference Overview of our ECSB pre-conference activities  ECSB Doctoral Workshop ECSB Post-Doctoral Paper Development Workshop ECSB Mid-Career Faculty Consortium Professional Development Workshop

SUMMARY:Co-Branded: Workshop Experiments in Entrepreneurship
DESCRIPTION:Co-Branded: Workshop Experiments in Entrepreneurship \nABOUT THE WORKSHOP\nExperimental designs provide a powerful lens to determine causality and have been labeled “the most rigorous of all research designs” (Trochim\, 2001: 191). However\, relatively few entrepreneurship studies use an experimental design. \nThe workshop consists of two main activities: 1) paper presentations and discussion with peers and experts; and 2) plenary keynote sessions\, where experts will address challenges in designing and conducting research using experimental methods\, with a special focus on ensuring causality by design. \nAIMS OF THE WORKSHOP  \n1.     Receive individualized feedback from peers and experts on your working paper;\n2.     Increase your knowledge of conducting experiments\, focusing on best practices and mistakes to avoid;\n3.     Develop your network with other scholars conducting research using similar methodological approaches as yourself. \nFOR WHOM?  \nThe workshop is targeted at PhD candidates\, Post-Docs\, and early-stage Assistant Professors working on studies in entrepreneurship research using experimental methodologies. The paper could be co-authored (with senior scholars)\, but the leading author and potential participant of the workshop should be an early-career researcher. Working papers will be selected based on both the theoretical contribution to the field and the rigor of the implementation of experimental methods. \n  \nMore details
