SUMMARY:5th Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research
DESCRIPTION:On-line workshop; June 24\, 2025 (12.30 -17.00h – CET) \nSUBMISSION DEADLINE May 25\, 2025 \nSUBMISSION LINK or copy this link to your browser: https://rug.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bQreEsLSYO4nlga \nABOUT THE WORKSHOP \nExperimental designs provide a powerful lens to determine causality. However\, relatively few entrepreneurship studies use an experimental design. Recently\, several calls have been made for more experimental studies in entrepreneurship research (e.g.\, Acs\, Audretsch\, Desai\, & Welpe\, 2010; Aguinis & Lawal\, 2012; Hsu\, Simmons\, & Wieland\, 2017)\, and leading journals in the field\, such as the Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy have developed special issues on using experimental methodologies (e.g.\, Costa\, Santos\, Schenkel\, Tegtmeier\, & Hytti\, 2021; Williams\, Wood\, Mitchell\, & Urbig\, 2019). \nIn this paper development workshop\, we aim to support scholars who are working on experiments as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nAlthough studies using experimental designs are a great way to establish causal relations\, designing\, conducting\, and analyzing experiments are not easy undertakings. To support early career scholars  in this endeavor\, ECSB Special Interest Group on Experiments organizes the fifth paper development workshop on Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research. In this workshop\, we aim to support and bring together (early career) scholars who are working with experimental designs as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nThe workshop consists of two main activities: 1) Plenary keynote session and panel session; and 2) Paper presentations\, discussions and lively interactions with peers and experts (in breakout rooms). \nThe keynote speaker of this edition will be: Prof. Dr. Michael Gielnik (Leuphana University\, Germany). \nWe are also pleased to have a group of highly knowledgeable and experienced researchers joining us as Workshop Facilitators. They will provide in-depth feedback on the papers submitted by participants\, helping to enrich the discussions and strengthen the research. \nDuring this workshop you will: \n\nReceive individualized feedback from peers and experts on your working paper;\nIncrease your knowledge on conducting experiments\, focusing on best practices and on mistakes to avoid;\nDevelop your network with other scholars conducting research using similar methodological approaches as yourself. Several experts in the field of entrepreneurship will closely work with participants on their working papers.\nSeveral experts in the field of entrepreneurship will be present at the workshop and will closely work with you on your working paper.\n\n  \nFOR WHOM?\nThe workshop is targeted at PhD candidates\, postdocs\, and (early-stage) Assistant Professors working on studies in entrepreneurship research using experimental designs. The submissions can be co-authored (with senior scholars)\, but the leading author and potential participant of the workshop should be an early/mid-career researcher. Working papers will be selected based on both the theoretical contribution to the field and the rigor of the implementation of experimental methods. \nLimited spots are available! With a small group setting\, all participants will have the opportunity to present their work and receive both peer and expert feedback on their working papers. \nSUBMISSIONS \nTo apply for participation in the workshop\, please submit your work until May 25\, 2025. We welcome two types of submissions: \nA)  Full working paper: studies that have been fully carried out and the paper is at the writing stage.  \nIf you have conducted an experiment and would like to receive guidance on how to\, for instance report your study and improve its story line\, argumentation\, address the suitability of the analyses or reporting of the results\, we welcome your submission as a full working paper. Please follow these submission guidelines for your working paper: \n\nFull working paper – max 40 pages (excl. title page\, reference list\, figures and tables)\, Times New Roman font\, size 12\, double line spacing;\nPlease indicate clearly the goals of the study\, the theoretical contribution\, methodology\, (preliminary) results and brief discussion including the contribution of the paper;\nOn the title page\, please indicate clearly the title of the working paper\, authors’ names and affiliation\, and “Full Working Paper”. Additionally\, one separate paragraph could be added to the title page in which you mention two key issues that you are facing with this paper and on which you would like to receive feedback during the workshop.\n\nB) Design stage papers: studies at the methodological design phase. \nIf you are currently designing a study where you will use experimental design methods and you are seeking guidance on\, for instance making sure the design is sound and robust\, we welcome your submission as a design stage paper. Please note that you must have a research idea\, research question\, theoretical contribution\, and basic study design for your submission to be considered. To submit your extended abstract\, please follow these guidelines: \n\nExtended Abstract – m 6 pages (excl. title page and reference list)\, Times New Roman font\, size 12\, double spacing;\nIn the extended abstract\, please indicate clearly the goals of the study\, the theoretical contribution\, and describe the design and methods you are currently considering\, in terms of procedures\, manipulation (if present) and measures;\nOn the title page\, please indicate clearly the title of the research design proposal\, authors’ names and affiliation\, and “Design Stage Paper”. Additionally\, one paragraph could be added to the title page in which you mention two key issues that you are facing regarding the proposed study\, on which you would like to receive feedback during the workshop.\n\nAll submissions should be submitted via the submission link. \nFORMAT AND ECSB MEMBERSHIP\nThis event will be held online. Details about the platform for connecting will be provided after registration. \nAfter acceptance\, registration to the event is required. ECSB membership is required for this event and it is also one of the benefits of participating in the workshop. If you are not a registered ECSB member\, we will ask you to become a member before participating in the workshop. SUMMARY:Nurturing Responsible Entrepreneurs - Educator Workshop
DESCRIPTION:How ethics could help towards productive entrepreneurial action\nSociety needs more entrepreneurial initiatives to help solve the pressing challenges of tomorrow. But to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past — and to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world — we need entrepreneurs who engage in responsible\, ethically grounded action. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll explore how to teach entrepreneurial responsibility by examining it through two distinct ethical perspectives. We’ll consider how these perspectives influence decision-making across the entrepreneurial journey\, from initial intentions to real-world consequences. \nThe session will also provide practical strategies for bringing these ideas into the classroom. Participants will experiment with gamified activities that engage students in ethical reflection\, helping them better understand the moral dimensions embedded in entrepreneurial processes. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have:\n\nExplored the concept of ethical dualism and considered its relevance to entrepreneurial decision-making.\nReflected on how ethical considerations shape different stages of the entrepreneurial process.\nEngaged with practical methods for using gamification to teach ethical dilemmas in entrepreneurship.\nDiscussed how to guide students in examining responsible entrepreneurial action in light of economic\, ecological\, and social sustainability.\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\nGustav Hägg holds a PhD from Lund University\, Sweden\, in the field of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial learning\, with a focus on how reflective thinking can be more effectively integrated into the learning processes of student entrepreneurs. He is currently an Associate Professor at Malmö University\, Sweden\, and his research interests include theorising learning in entrepreneurship education\, the post-education career paths of graduates\, and broader themes such as entrepreneurial decision-making and the role of ethics and responsibility in entrepreneurship. \nRegister by 11 September 2025\, limited number of seats available: https://learninglab.sses.se/workshops/nurturing-responsible-entrepreneurs/

SUMMARY:Small Acts\, Big Changes: Connecting Social and Everyday Entrepreneurship
DESCRIPTION:“Everyday-everyone” entrepreneurship (EEE)\, which often manifests itself in low-growth\, low-tech and low-innovation new ventures\, can address important social challenges through grassroots initiatives that create\nmeaningful local impact. Yet\, while 99% of all entrepreneurial activities worldwide are argued to fall under EEE\, and countless social entrepreneurship initiatives operate at community-based scales\, research\non both the mundanity of entrepreneurship and small-scale social ventures has remained on the margins of mainstream entrepreneurship literature. \nHosted by Aalto University School of Business\, the purpose of this two-day event is to stimulate discussions on theoretical and methodological advancements in the study of everyday-everyone entrepreneurship and\nsocial entrepreneurship across diverse contexts. \nThe event will feature keynote presentations by Professor Friederike Welter\, (IfM Bonn; University of Siegen) and Professor Sophie Bacq (IMD)\, and paper development sessions for PhD students and early-career researchers. \nHow to apply\nSubmit a paper abstract (600-800 words) to kaisu.puumalainen@lut.fi We encourage submissions that study diverse theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches to understanding everyday-everyone\nentrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. \nApplication deadline: 4th August 2025 \nRead more HERE

SUMMARY:10th Effectuation Conference: Effectual Impact: The Entrepreneurial Role in Connecting Society
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Effectuation Conference theme is “Effectual Impact: The Entrepreneurial Role in Connecting Society”.  Effectuation has inspired a generation of researchers and practitioners to see entrepreneurship through a different lens. By focusing on means at hand\, letting go of preconceived plans\, building through collaboration\, and embracing uncertainty\, aspiring entrepreneurs have earned a toolbox that catalyzed the design of more creative and durable businesses. \nEach year\, our community expands through the valuable exchanges that occur at our conference. These include the design of new research projects\, the development of educational tools\, and critical debates on the far-reaching impact of effectual thinking. This year\, we will dedicate the 10th Effectuation Conference to “The Entrepreneurial Role in Connecting Society”.  We invite researchers\, authors\, educators\, policy makers and other persons of interest to submit their work.  Come to the conference to engage in a discussion about how effectuation can be practiced in the real world! \nDuring our two days together\, we will explore: \n\nHow can effectuation be practiced by entrepreneurs and managers?\nWhat other disciplines can benefit from effectuation theory? And how?\nWhat is the value of effectuation when uncertainty is low(er)?\n\nEffectuation is at the vanguard of entrepreneurship research and practice as a scientifically validated method that arms aspiring entrepreneurs with a toolkit to design bold\, creative\, and unexpected solutions. In our post-pandemic world where global challenges threaten to upend our lives with unprecedented crises\, teaching effectuation as means to forge better futures was never this urgent. \nCo-branded with ECSB and scheduled in tandem with the RENT Conference\, the 2025 Effectuation Conference will take place in Twente\, City of Enschede\, Netherlands. \nImportant Deadlines:\nPaper submission:    May 15\, 2025\nAuthor notification:     July 31\, 2025\nRegistration opens:    August 15\, 2025\nRegistration closes:    September 30\, 2025

SUMMARY:Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Well-being: Challenges and Drivers
DESCRIPTION:E&I Research Group and the IUSEN Institute of Economy and Business\, at the University of Seville are delighted to host an online webinar on the intersection of entrepreneurial activity and personal well-being. \nEntrepreneurship role in innovation and economic activity is often celebrated. However\, beneath the narratives of success and ambition\, entrepreneurial activity is often characterized by substantial time pressure\, long hours\, financial uncertainty\, and emotional involvement in the venture. Under this pressure\, the entrepreneurs’ personal well-being —the presence of positive experiences and absence of negative experiences associated with running an entrepreneurial venture— may be affected. The entrepreneurs’ wellbeing can help them persist in the face of difficulties. Therefore\, understanding the challenges and drivers of entrepreneurial well-being and burnout is highly relevant for researchers\, policymakers\, and\, most importantly\, for those aspiring to or currently running their own businesses. The seminar brings two world-leading experts to explore this vital intersection. \nProgramme Schedule \n17:00: Welcome and Presentation – Francisco Liñán (Senior researcher at E&I research group) \n17:00: “The Entrepreneur’s Well-being” (+ Q&A) – Prof. Teemu Kautonen (NEOMA Business School\, France) \n18:00: “Emotional Demands and Entrepreneurial Burnout” (+ Q&A) – Prof. Paul Jones (Swansea University\, UK) \nParticipation is free of charge. SUMMARY:ECSB Conference Goes Online
DESCRIPTION:Presenting one’s research and receiving feedback on it is important for advancing in research. The ECSB organizes annually two conferences – the RENT Research in Entrepreneurship and Small Business together with EIASM and the 3E – ECSB Entrepreneurship Education Conference. However\, we understand that attending conferences in person is not always an option for all. For this reason\, ECSB organises ECSB Conference Goes Online on 18 February 2026 between 10am and 2pm (CET). \nWe are honoured to present Professor Kim Klyver from University of Southern Denmark as the Keynote Speaker. Professor Kim Klyver will give a keynote entitled: “Rethinking entrepreneurship in causally entangled crises: Towards a poly-crisis perspective”. \nPresenting at the ECSB Conference Goes Online will be free-of-charge for existing ECSB members. We will accept approximately 12–16 presentations for this event. In the selection a priority will be given to existing ECSB members and to authors who have not presented their paper at the previous 3E or RENT conferences (3E 2025 or RENT 2025). All ECSB members are welcome to join the ECSB Conference Goes Online as participants. The event is free-of-charge but registration will be required. \nHow to join ECSB Conference Goes Online? \nSubmit your abstract (900 words) to ecsbonline@utu.fi by 9th December. In the e-mail include also 1-2 sentences why you are interested in presenting at this online conference. All abstracts will be reviewed. Feedback and decisions will be sent by early January at the latest. There is no full paper submission for the event but each presenter will be appointed a discussant to kick-off the discussion in the session. \nAccepted presenters need to register for the conference and agree to present their paper on 18th February in a slot between 10am and 2pm pm (CET). \nFurther questions? \nPlease contact the ECSB Secretariat (info@ecsb.org) or the conference organising committee (ecsbonline@utu.fi).

SUMMARY:Hidden Gems in Gender and Entrepreneurship Research
DESCRIPTION:Online research workshop on Thursday5th March 1200 -1300 (GMT) \nThe field of women’s entrepreneurship has witnessed considerable development in recent years\, attracting interest from academics\, practitioners and policy makers. Published scholarship has increased significantly and the scope of thematic coverage has expanded. However\, the field is still viewed by many as relatively new\, slowly evolving and taking shape. There is still so much that we simply do not understand. \nThis online workshop (the first of two in this ECSB-sponsored series) aims to synthesise current knowledge in the field by reviewing some of the major themes that have been debated in the literature. Three leading international gender and entrepreneurship scholars will discuss their unique perspectives. \nSee more information of the workshop \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:ECSB SocChange SIG Webinar: A critical discussion of the role of social entrepreneurship in social change
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the SocChange SIG webinar on social entrepreneurship and its relationship with positive social change. \nIn this webinar we will explore critiques and potentials of social entrepreneurship? Under what circumstances can social entrepreneurship foster fundamental positive social change\, and under what circumstances does it end up reinforcing the market economy that produces increasing social inequality and environmental degradation? The webinar will feature short presentations by prominent entrepreneurship scholars before inviting a reflective and inclusive conversation about the potentials\, limitations and dark side of social entrepreneurship. \nThe webinar follows from our earlier online event about the work of Karl Polanyi and how it can inform entrepreneurship research. We continue the conversation\, picking up on how the insights of Polanyi generates critical questions about the role of social entrepreneurship. We combine this with perspectives from recent work by prominent social entrepreneurship scholars exploring the dark side of social entrepreneurship. \nConfirmed speakers include Frank Janssen (UC Louvain)\, Sophie Bacq (IMD)\, Anne Sophie Sabbatuci (Kelley School of Business)\, Vicky Nowak (Manchester Metropolitan)\, and Paola Raffaelli (IQS School of Management). \nThe webinar should be of interest to all entrepreneurship scholars interested in new conversations about the role of social entrepreneurship – in particular those looking for new alternative theoretical vocabularies to engage in reflective and critical explorations of this topic. \nThe webinar will take place on the 16th of March 15.30 to 17:00 Central European Time \nWebinar Facilitator: Steffen Korsgaard (University of Southern Denmark) and Verena Meyer (Leuphana University of Lüneburg) \nParticipation in the seminar is free of charge and registration is here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/uc2TY0gDTb-X_IZxNCpc9g \nThe event is organized by the ECSB Entrepreneurship and Social Change SIG. \nMore details about the SIG at: Entrepreneurship and Social Change Special Interest Group | European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship

And have you… \n\nalready planned to submit\, but need some feedback (especially if it is one of the first times that you submit to the RENT)?\nconsidered a submission\, but are not sure whether your work is a good fit for the RENT?\na first draft or sketch of your submission and want to further work on it with your peers?\n\nIf any of these conditions apply to you\, join us for this year’s Abstract Writing Workshop! To get the most out of this\, please prepare a draft version of your abstract beforehand. This can be a rough sketch in bullet points\, but bring along a version that you can further work on. \nSee the RENT 2026 Conference website for more info:\nhttps://rent-conference.org/\nhttps://rent-conference.org/submission/submission-deadline-instructions \nOrganizers\nThis workshop is organized as a joint initiative from several ECSB country vice presidents\, represented by: \n\nSimon Schmidt (ECSB country VP for Germany)\nVerena Meyer (Germany)\nRenata Osowska (ECSB country VP for UK)\nPekka Stenholm (Finland)\n\nParticipation\nParticipation is free\, but a registration is required by 15 April 2026. The registered participants will receive a link to a brief survey\, providing us with some information to ensure efficient group work\, and a Zoom link to join the meeting. \nRegister HERE. \nContact person\nVerena Meyer (verena.meyer(at)leuphana.de) \nPS.
