SUMMARY:10th Effectuation Conference: Effectual Impact: The Entrepreneurial Role in Connecting Society
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Effectuation Conference theme is “Effectual Impact: The Entrepreneurial Role in Connecting Society”.  Effectuation has inspired a generation of researchers and practitioners to see entrepreneurship through a different lens. By focusing on means at hand\, letting go of preconceived plans\, building through collaboration\, and embracing uncertainty\, aspiring entrepreneurs have earned a toolbox that catalyzed the design of more creative and durable businesses. \nEach year\, our community expands through the valuable exchanges that occur at our conference. These include the design of new research projects\, the development of educational tools\, and critical debates on the far-reaching impact of effectual thinking. This year\, we will dedicate the 10th Effectuation Conference to “The Entrepreneurial Role in Connecting Society”.  We invite researchers\, authors\, educators\, policy makers and other persons of interest to submit their work.  Come to the conference to engage in a discussion about how effectuation can be practiced in the real world! \nDuring our two days together\, we will explore: \n\nHow can effectuation be practiced by entrepreneurs and managers?\nWhat other disciplines can benefit from effectuation theory? And how?\nWhat is the value of effectuation when uncertainty is low(er)?\n\nEffectuation is at the vanguard of entrepreneurship research and practice as a scientifically validated method that arms aspiring entrepreneurs with a toolkit to design bold\, creative\, and unexpected solutions. SUMMARY:Small Acts\, Big Changes: Connecting Social and Everyday Entrepreneurship
DESCRIPTION:“Everyday-everyone” entrepreneurship (EEE)\, which often manifests itself in low-growth\, low-tech and low-innovation new ventures\, can address important social challenges through grassroots initiatives that create\nmeaningful local impact. SUMMARY:Nurturing Responsible Entrepreneurs - Educator Workshop
DESCRIPTION:How ethics could help towards productive entrepreneurial action\nSociety needs more entrepreneurial initiatives to help solve the pressing challenges of tomorrow. But to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past — and to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world — we need entrepreneurs who engage in responsible\, ethically grounded action. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll explore how to teach entrepreneurial responsibility by examining it through two distinct ethical perspectives. We’ll consider how these perspectives influence decision-making across the entrepreneurial journey\, from initial intentions to real-world consequences. \nThe session will also provide practical strategies for bringing these ideas into the classroom. Participants will experiment with gamified activities that engage students in ethical reflection\, helping them better understand the moral dimensions embedded in entrepreneurial processes. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have:\n\nExplored the concept of ethical dualism and considered its relevance to entrepreneurial decision-making.\nReflected on how ethical considerations shape different stages of the entrepreneurial process.\nEngaged with practical methods for using gamification to teach ethical dilemmas in entrepreneurship.\nDiscussed how to guide students in examining responsible entrepreneurial action in light of economic\, ecological\, and social sustainability.\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR\nGustav Hägg holds a PhD from Lund University\, Sweden\, in the field of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial learning\, with a focus on how reflective thinking can be more effectively integrated into the learning processes of student entrepreneurs. SUMMARY:ESU 2025 Conference and Doctoral Programme
DESCRIPTION:ESU 2025 Conference and Doctoral Programme will be held at Southampton Solent University on September 1-6\, 2025. \nESU Concept \nThe aim of ESU is to strengthen European research and networks in entrepreneurship by focusing both on academic sessions and on the culture and heritage that the host country and region have to offer. \nESU also provides a friendly environment for young scholars to interact and bond within the research community\, and to learn important skills for their future careers. At ESU\, supervisors\, researchers\, and doctoral students from international institutions\, active in entrepreneurship research and education\, come together to share experiences and create new international networks\, in a supportive environment. \nThe ESU Doctoral Programme is organized in the following format: \n\nPlenary sessions on specific topics with keynote speakers who will inspire and invite critical reflection on a variety of topics related to entrepreneurship. The topics typically include topical topics on entrepreneurship\, innovative methodologies\, publication and review process\, career in academia and beyond with your PhD in entrepreneurship.\nGroup discussions and presentations where you will have the opportunity to present your work in your group\, discuss the work of your peers\, and receive feedback from experienced scholars.\n\nThere will be three groups for the doctoral programme: \n\nEarly-Stage Group: Students in this group have not started their doctoral studies or are in their first year. They present their research proposals.\nWork in Progress Group: Students in this group are in the middle of their PhD studies and will present their early-stage research.\nWriting-up group: Students in this group are close to completing their PhD research and will present their result papers.\n\nParticipating in the ESU Doctoral Programme and completing all its tasks gives you up to 6 ECTS equivalent. The detailed description of the tasks is described here. \nThe Conference Day \nIn addition to the Doctoral Programme\, the ESU Conference offers regular conference tracks open to all attendees. All presentations will take place on the Conference Day\, Wednesday 3rd September 2025. In particular\, we invite the following scholars to send their papers: \n\nPostdocs (holding a postdoctoral position). They are invited to present their own work and act as speakers in the conference sessions. However\, relatively few entrepreneurship studies use an experimental design. Recently\, several calls have been made for more experimental studies in entrepreneurship research (e.g.\, Acs\, Audretsch\, Desai\, & Welpe\, 2010; Aguinis & Lawal\, 2012; Hsu\, Simmons\, & Wieland\, 2017)\, and leading journals in the field\, such as the Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy have developed special issues on using experimental methodologies (e.g.\, Costa\, Santos\, Schenkel\, Tegtmeier\, & Hytti\, 2021; Williams\, Wood\, Mitchell\, & Urbig\, 2019). \nIn this paper development workshop\, we aim to support scholars who are working on experiments as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nAlthough studies using experimental designs are a great way to establish causal relations\, designing\, conducting\, and analyzing experiments are not easy undertakings. To support early career scholars  in this endeavor\, ECSB Special Interest Group on Experiments organizes the fifth paper development workshop on Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research. In this workshop\, we aim to support and bring together (early career) scholars who are working with experimental designs as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nThe workshop consists of two main activities: 1) Plenary keynote session and panel session; and 2) Paper presentations\, discussions and lively interactions with peers and experts (in breakout rooms). \nThe keynote speaker of this edition will be: Prof. Dr. Michael Gielnik (Leuphana University\, Germany). \nWe are also pleased to have a group of highly knowledgeable and experienced researchers joining us as Workshop Facilitators. They will provide in-depth feedback on the papers submitted by participants\, helping to enrich the discussions and strengthen the research. \nDuring this workshop you will: \n\nReceive individualized feedback from peers and experts on your working paper;\nIncrease your knowledge on conducting experiments\, focusing on best practices and on mistakes to avoid;\nDevelop your network with other scholars conducting research using similar methodological approaches as yourself. Several experts in the field of entrepreneurship will closely work with participants on their working papers.\nSeveral experts in the field of entrepreneurship will be present at the workshop and will closely work with you on your working paper.\n\n  \nFOR WHOM?\nThe workshop is targeted at PhD candidates\, postdocs\, and (early-stage) Assistant Professors working on studies in entrepreneurship research using experimental designs. DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join the next 3E Conference in Munich on 21-23 May 2025 under the following theme: Responsible\, Systemic\, Democratic: New trajectories in entrepreneurship education \n\n\nIn line with transformations towards sustainable-entrepreneurial universities (Cai\, Ahmad 2022) Entrepreneurship Education (EE) sees itself radically changing and adapting to the new global\, environmental and institutional requirements of the 21st century. For 2025’s 3E conference\, we invite scholarly investigations into three dimensions of EE to lay foundations for future research and practice\, share best practices and spark critical debates. \n\nIn line with recent discussions of responsible entrepreneurship (Hägg et al. 2024)\, we want to better understand how EE construes responsibility. How may educators and institutions integrate responsibility into EE’s core rather than merely a side or after-effect? How does EE theoretically define and methodologically implement responsibility? What theories\, methods and best practices help to rigorously integrate responsibility within entrepreneurial education processes?\n\n\nHow can Entrepreneurship Education adapt to systemic perspectives to innovation\, value creation and learning? Systems Thinking offers new vantage points for holistic entrepreneurial processes\, encourages new ways of thinking and challenges learners to cope with complexity and ambiguity. Yet what specific value does a systems perspective offer to EE? What are teaching practices\, philosophies and designs that succeed in the development of systemic competencies? Systemic approaches often overwhelm learners and are in conflict with linear innovation processes. If assuming that Systems Thinking is integral to Social Entrepreneurship (Trivedi 2015)\, what is its role for ‘traditional’ entrepreneurship and education?\n\n\nWhile previous research has argued that ‘entrepreneurialism’ is something exceptional and inherent only in ‘entrepreneurs’\, more recent approaches have underlined a more ‘democratic’ understanding\, emphasizing that every student and learner has the capacity and potential to be and become more entrepreneurial (Block et al. 2023). We want to invite research that helps us better understand and execute such “wide approaches to EE” (Baggen et al. 2021) but also reflect on the opportunities and risks such approaches may bring about.\n\nThrough an innovative and non-traditional format\, the 3E Conference establishes a different paradigm for entrepreneurship conferences. It offers an exclusive and engaging opportunity for researchers\, educators\, and politicians to debate and exchange their experiences of the major challenges and advances in enterprise education with a special and unique focus on Europe. Unlike more traditional academic events\, the conference focuses on problems and questions rather than on solutions and presentations of research findings. The format is unplugged\, no power point presentations allowed\, round table discussions that participants have read beforehand. Further\, the keynote speakers are chosen from among the participants rather than being invited outsiders. \nWho should attend?\nPotential participants include entrepreneurship educators and researchers\, research-based educators from primary\, secondary\, and higher education institutions\, practitioners involved in entrepreneurship support programs including coaches\, trainers\, policy makers and program managers\, and special interest group representatives from local or international organisations. \nAbout the program and the venues\nThe 3E Conference program will include three interactive days\, mainly taking place around the campus of the Hochschule München and its Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship\, which are located close to the city center of Munich. Please join us for the ECSB SocChange SIG webinar on Polanyi and entrepreneurship for social change. \nWe will explore how the work of Karl Polanyi can inform entrepreneurship research in a time of social and environmental crisis. Karl Polanyi’s work builds on a critical analysis of the relationship between market and society\, warning against the disembedding of the economy from society. A critique that resonates with the concerns about the ability of markets and profit seeking entrepreneurs to deliver the solutions needed to address climate change and increasing social and regional inequalities shared by many within and outside the entrepreneurship research community. \nThe conceptual vocabulary of Polanyi including his ground-breaking ideas of embeddedness\, the double movement\, and the substantive economy\, offers fertile ground for re-thinking and expanding our understanding of what entrepreneurship is\, and can be. \nIn this webinar we will explore new avenues for entrepreneurship research using Polanyian ideas. DESCRIPTION:Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) were included in the programme of the RENT pre-conference day for the first time at RENT XXIX in Zagreb 2015. The concept proved to be successful and PDWs are now part of the pre-conference day. SUMMARY:9th Effectuation 2024 Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 9th Effectuation Conference will be organised prior the RENT 2024 Conference on 12-13 November 2024 in nantes\, France. The conference theme is “Effectuation: Bridging Research and Practice”.  Effectuation has inspired a generation of researchers and practitioners to see entrepreneurship through a different lens. By focusing on means at hand\, letting go of preconceived plans\, building through collaboration\, and embracing uncertainty\, aspiring entrepreneurs have earned a toolbox that catalyzed the design of more creative and durable businesses. \nEach year\, our community expands through the valuable exchanges that occur at our conference. These include the design of new research projects\, the development of educational tools\, and critical debates on the far-reaching impact of effectual thinking. This year\, we will dedicate the 9th Effectuation Conference to “Bridging Research and Practice”.  We invite researchers\, authors\, educators\, policy makers and other persons of interest to submit their work.  Come to the conference to engage in a discussion about how effectuation can be practiced in the real world! \nDuring our two days together\, we will explore: \n\nHow can effectuation be practiced by entrepreneurs and managers?\nWhat other disciplines can benefit from effectuation theory? And how?\nWhat is the value of effectuation when uncertainty is low(er)?\n\nEffectuation is at the vanguard of entrepreneurship research and practice as a scientifically validated method that arms aspiring entrepreneurs with a toolkit to design bold\, creative\, and unexpected solutions. DESCRIPTION:ESU 2024 CONFERENCE & DOCTORAL PROGRAM \n“TECHNOLOGY FOR BETTER FUTURES” \nThe Institute of Innovation Management at JKU Business School\, Johannes Kepler University Linz – JKU invites you to join the ESU 2024 Conference and Doctoral Program from 16 to 20 September 2024. \nThe aim of ESU is to strengthen European research traditions and networks in entrepreneurship by focusing both on academic sessions and on the culture and heritage that the host country and region have to offer. \nBi-annually\, the ESU network organizes an event that combines the ESU Doctoral Program and the academic ESU Conference. This year\, the event is hosted at Johannes Kepler University in Linz\, Austria. \nThe ESU Doctoral Program  \nDuring the ESU Doctoral Program PhD students at different stages of their projects – i.e.\, early\, intermediate and mature stage – work together with established researchers on current topics of theoretical and methodological aspects and practices in entrepreneurship research. The exchange is organized in two formats: \nPlenary sessions on specific topics with established researchers as keynote speakers\, who will inspire and invite critical reflection on a variety of topics related to entrepreneurship such as interesting issues\, innovative methodologies\, and the publication process. \nGroup discussions and presentations where PhD students present their own work\, discuss it with peers\, and receive feedback from more senior scholars. \nParticipating in the ESU Doctoral Program and completing all its tasks gives you up to 6 ECTS. The tasks comprise: \n\nA presentation of your own work. The content of the presentation will vary according to the progress of the PhD project. Early stage PhDs\, who have not started their research project\, will present their research proposals. Intermediate stage PhDs will present the theoretical underpinning and methodological design of their first research together with preliminary results\, if available. Mature stage PhDs\, who are close to completion\, will present their projects and outcomes.\nA written review of one of your peers’ work that forms the basis of a short oral statement in one of the sessions.\nA literature-based reflection of a topic related to your own PhD project. This reflection will be inspired by the input you receive during the plenary sessions in the ESU Doctoral Program.\n\nThe ESU Conference (Wed. 18 September) \nIn addition to the ESU Doctoral Program the event also features the ESU Conference\, which is an academic conference taking place on Wed. 18th September. DESCRIPTION:The 7th Paper Development Seminar (7PDS) aims to help participants develop research results into papers that may be suitable for publication in top-tier academic journals. The 7PDS is Co-organized with GEM-Spain (Observatorio del Emprendimiento de España\, www.gem-spain.com). \nPapers/proposals applying a process perspective to entrepreneurship are welcome. We are open to any contributions analysing the entrepreneurial process\, may they be conceptual or empirical and\, in this latter case\, using quantitative (ideally longitudinal\, but also cross-sectional) and/or qualitative methods. \nAdditionally\, the 7PDS is associated with the InsEnt SIGs “Institutions and Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group” at ECSB (https://ecsb.org/insent-sig/). A special session will be devoted to the role of Institutions in Entrepreneurship. \nSubmissions will be peer-reviewed. Those deemed of highest potential by the organizing committee will be invited to participate. Selected participants will be offered the opportunity to submit a full paper (if they did not do so initially). Extended abstracts may also be presented at the seminar. The objective is to develop a productive and intimate work environment. SUMMARY:3E 2024 Conference
DESCRIPTION:Through an innovative and non-traditional format\, the 3E Conference establishes a new paradigm for entrepreneurship conferences. It offers an inclusive setting to fully collaborate with researchers\, educators and policymakers to debate and exchange the best practices\, the major challenges and novel advances in entrepreneurship education with a special and unique focus on Europe. Unlike more traditional academic events\, this conference puts the spotlight in problems and questions; the format is ‘unplugged’ without power point presentations. Instead\, engaging round table discussions are held with participants who have read papers beforehand. Further\, the keynote speakers are chosen from among the best submission of the participants. \n\nConference theme: Entrepreneurship Education – a playground for impact \n\nOver the past years\, Entrepreneurship Education (EE) has increasingly become more mature in its theory and practice. Yet\, it has not lost its playfulness and its willingness to try out new things. We believe EE can and should be seen as a playground for educators\, scholars\, and students; and continue to invite innovative action and experimentation. At the same time\, this led to a variety of challenges and contexts for players to solve through creativity\, interaction and mutual learning. That is why this edition encourages the 3E community to present novel solutions to encourage tilting EE towards social development\, mental and physical wellbeing\, and sustainability. We need to promote innovation\, creativity as well as responsible risk-taking. And most importantly\, we need to think of what we want our students to learn\, what our students want to learn\, and how they best learn.  Therefore\, we welcome contributions that present\, explore and question the playfulness of EE in relation towards social and sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives. \nWho should attend?\nPotential participants include entrepreneurship education educators and researchers\, research-based educators from primary\, secondary\, and higher institutions\, practitioners involved in entrepreneurship support programs including trainers\, policy makers and program managers\, and special interest group representatives from local or international organisations. \nAbout the program and the venues\nThe 3E Conference program will include three interactive days in the city of Amsterdam\, mainly in the vicinity of the AUAS Amstel Campus. A program that will have several pre- and post-events including\, welcome reception on Wednesday 15th (location to be announced)\, PDW Day (AUAS Amstel Campus)\, main conference (AUAS Amstel Campus)\, gala dinner with entertainment (location to be announced). SUMMARY:3rd Annual RENT Abstract Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:on Wednesday 24 April 2024 at 14:00-16:30 CEST offers support on writing an abstract to RENT Conference to be organised in Nantes on 14-15 November 2024. \nAbout this event\nDo you want to submit to RENT in Nantes this year? And have you… \n\nalready planned to submit\, but need some feedback (especially if it is one of the first times that you submit to the RENT)?\nconsidered a submission\, but are not sure whether your work is a good fit for the RENT?\na first draft or sketch of your submission and want to further work on it with your peers?\n\nIf any of these conditions apply to you\, join us for this year’s Abstract Writing Workshop! Together\, we will meet online via Zoom and first\, get some tips from experienced ECSB members to improve the chances of our submission. While this provides a good point to get started\, the majority of this workshop will be spent writing the abstract\, getting and giving feedback and jointly reflecting our writing process with support from experienced advisors. \nWith this interactive workshop\, we aim to contribute to high-quality submissions of extended abstracts for the RENT and\, from an individual participant’s perspective\, we will actually get (most) of the writing done. This workshop entails: \n\nExpert’s advice on abstract writing for the RENT\nWorking individually on your writing\nReflecting together in small groups\nGiving and receiving feedback from experienced advisors\nDiscuss challenges with experts and colleagues\n\nThis means that this is an actual workshop in which you will actually work on your own abstracts. To get the most out of this\, please prepare a draft version of your abstract beforehand. SUMMARY:Educator Workshop: What to Teach in Entrepreneurship Education
DESCRIPTION:In the dynamic field of entrepreneurship education\, one challenge looms especially large for its educators: the question of content. What exactly should be taught? With entrepreneurship education in continuous high demand\, universities are encouraged to provide more and varied programmes that cater to the diverse interests of students and the changing demands of society. Deciding what to teach has thus become increasingly complex\, reflecting the need for a curriculum that is both relevant and adaptive. \nThis workshop\, led by Dr. Colette Henry\, offers a fresh perspective on selecting educational content. It considers the needs of the entrepreneurship educator against the backdrop of an ever-changing global landscape\, marked by shifts in social\, economic\, environmental\, and technological factors. \nThe workshop aims to examine the role of the contemporary entrepreneurship educator with a focus on overcoming the challenge of content selection. Participants will have the opportunity to: \n\nGain insights into some of the many factors influencing the content of entrepreneurship programmes and affecting the decision on ‘what to teach’\nShare experiences and strategies for addressing content selection\, reflecting on personal teaching practices\nExplore potential future challenges in content selection and how to prepare for them\n\nBy the end of the workshop\, educators will be better equipped to navigate the complexities of content selection in entrepreneurship education\, ensuring their programs are both relevant and forward-thinking. \nParticipation in the workshop is free but a registration by 17 April 2024 is required. \nMore information and link to registration: https://learninglab.sses.se/workshops/what-to-teach-in-entrepreneurship-education/
