SUMMARY:ECSB SocChange SIG Webinar: A critical discussion of the role of social entrepreneurship in social change
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the SocChange SIG webinar on social entrepreneurship and its relationship with positive social change. \nIn this webinar we will explore critiques and potentials of social entrepreneurship? Under what circumstances can social entrepreneurship foster fundamental positive social change\, and under what circumstances does it end up reinforcing the market economy that produces increasing social inequality and environmental degradation? The webinar will feature short presentations by prominent entrepreneurship scholars before inviting a reflective and inclusive conversation about the potentials\, limitations and dark side of social entrepreneurship. \nThe webinar follows from our earlier online event about the work of Karl Polanyi and how it can inform entrepreneurship research. We continue the conversation\, picking up on how the insights of Polanyi generates critical questions about the role of social entrepreneurship. We combine this with perspectives from recent work by prominent social entrepreneurship scholars exploring the dark side of social entrepreneurship. \nConfirmed speakers include Frank Janssen (UC Louvain)\, Sophie Bacq (IMD)\, Anne Sophie Sabbatuci (Kelley School of Business)\, Vicky Nowak (Manchester Metropolitan)\, and Paola Raffaelli (IQS School of Management). \nThe webinar should be of interest to all entrepreneurship scholars interested in new conversations about the role of social entrepreneurship – in particular those looking for new alternative theoretical vocabularies to engage in reflective and critical explorations of this topic. \nThe webinar will take place on the 16th of March 15.30 to 17:00 Central European Time \nWebinar Facilitator: Steffen Korsgaard (University of Southern Denmark) and Verena Meyer (Leuphana University of Lüneburg) \nParticipation in the seminar is free of charge and registration is here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/uc2TY0gDTb-X_IZxNCpc9g \nThe event is organized by the ECSB Entrepreneurship and Social Change SIG. \nMore details about the SIG at: Entrepreneurship and Social Change Special Interest Group | European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship

SUMMARY:5th Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research
DESCRIPTION:On-line workshop; June 24\, 2025 (12.30 -17.00h – CET) \nSUBMISSION DEADLINE May 25\, 2025 \nSUBMISSION LINK or copy this link to your browser: https://rug.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bQreEsLSYO4nlga \nABOUT THE WORKSHOP \nExperimental designs provide a powerful lens to determine causality. However\, relatively few entrepreneurship studies use an experimental design. Recently\, several calls have been made for more experimental studies in entrepreneurship research (e.g.\, Acs\, Audretsch\, Desai\, & Welpe\, 2010; Aguinis & Lawal\, 2012; Hsu\, Simmons\, & Wieland\, 2017)\, and leading journals in the field\, such as the Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy have developed special issues on using experimental methodologies (e.g.\, Costa\, Santos\, Schenkel\, Tegtmeier\, & Hytti\, 2021; Williams\, Wood\, Mitchell\, & Urbig\, 2019). \nIn this paper development workshop\, we aim to support scholars who are working on experiments as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nAlthough studies using experimental designs are a great way to establish causal relations\, designing\, conducting\, and analyzing experiments are not easy undertakings. To support early career scholars  in this endeavor\, ECSB Special Interest Group on Experiments organizes the fifth paper development workshop on Conducting Experiments in Entrepreneurship Research. In this workshop\, we aim to support and bring together (early career) scholars who are working with experimental designs as a methodology in entrepreneurship research. \nThe workshop consists of two main activities: 1) Plenary keynote session and panel session; and 2) Paper presentations\, discussions and lively interactions with peers and experts (in breakout rooms). \nThe keynote speaker of this edition will be: Prof. Dr. Michael Gielnik (Leuphana University\, Germany). \nWe are also pleased to have a group of highly knowledgeable and experienced researchers joining us as Workshop Facilitators. They will provide in-depth feedback on the papers submitted by participants\, helping to enrich the discussions and strengthen the research. \nDuring this workshop you will: \n\nReceive individualized feedback from peers and experts on your working paper;\nIncrease your knowledge on conducting experiments\, focusing on best practices and on mistakes to avoid;\nDevelop your network with other scholars conducting research using similar methodological approaches as yourself. Several experts in the field of entrepreneurship will closely work with participants on their working papers.\nSeveral experts in the field of entrepreneurship will be present at the workshop and will closely work with you on your working paper.\n\n  \nFOR WHOM?\nThe workshop is targeted at PhD candidates\, postdocs\, and (early-stage) Assistant Professors working on studies in entrepreneurship research using experimental designs. The submissions can be co-authored (with senior scholars)\, but the leading author and potential participant of the workshop should be an early/mid-career researcher. Working papers will be selected based on both the theoretical contribution to the field and the rigor of the implementation of experimental methods. \nLimited spots are available! With a small group setting\, all participants will have the opportunity to present their work and receive both peer and expert feedback on their working papers. \nSUBMISSIONS \nTo apply for participation in the workshop\, please submit your work until May 25\, 2025. We welcome two types of submissions: \nA)  Full working paper: studies that have been fully carried out and the paper is at the writing stage.  \nIf you have conducted an experiment and would like to receive guidance on how to\, for instance report your study and improve its story line\, argumentation\, address the suitability of the analyses or reporting of the results\, we welcome your submission as a full working paper. Please follow these submission guidelines for your working paper: \n\nFull working paper – max 40 pages (excl. title page\, reference list\, figures and tables)\, Times New Roman font\, size 12\, double line spacing;\nPlease indicate clearly the goals of the study\, the theoretical contribution\, methodology\, (preliminary) results and brief discussion including the contribution of the paper;\nOn the title page\, please indicate clearly the title of the working paper\, authors’ names and affiliation\, and “Full Working Paper”. Additionally\, one separate paragraph could be added to the title page in which you mention two key issues that you are facing with this paper and on which you would like to receive feedback during the workshop.\n\nB) Design stage papers: studies at the methodological design phase. \nIf you are currently designing a study where you will use experimental design methods and you are seeking guidance on\, for instance making sure the design is sound and robust\, we welcome your submission as a design stage paper. Please note that you must have a research idea\, research question\, theoretical contribution\, and basic study design for your submission to be considered. To submit your extended abstract\, please follow these guidelines: \n\nExtended Abstract – m 6 pages (excl. title page and reference list)\, Times New Roman font\, size 12\, double spacing;\nIn the extended abstract\, please indicate clearly the goals of the study\, the theoretical contribution\, and describe the design and methods you are currently considering\, in terms of procedures\, manipulation (if present) and measures;\nOn the title page\, please indicate clearly the title of the research design proposal\, authors’ names and affiliation\, and “Design Stage Paper”. Additionally\, one paragraph could be added to the title page in which you mention two key issues that you are facing regarding the proposed study\, on which you would like to receive feedback during the workshop.\n\nAll submissions should be submitted via the submission link. \nFORMAT AND ECSB MEMBERSHIP\nThis event will be held online. Details about the platform for connecting will be provided after registration. \nAfter acceptance\, registration to the event is required. ECSB membership is required for this event and it is also one of the benefits of participating in the workshop. SUMMARY:ECSB SocChange SIG webinar on Polanyi and entrepreneurship for social change
DESCRIPTION:How can the work of Karl Polanyi inform entrepreneurship research? Please join us for the ECSB SocChange SIG webinar on Polanyi and entrepreneurship for social change. \nWe will explore how the work of Karl Polanyi can inform entrepreneurship research in a time of social and environmental crisis. Karl Polanyi’s work builds on a critical analysis of the relationship between market and society\, warning against the disembedding of the economy from society. A critique that resonates with the concerns about the ability of markets and profit seeking entrepreneurs to deliver the solutions needed to address climate change and increasing social and regional inequalities shared by many within and outside the entrepreneurship research community. \nThe conceptual vocabulary of Polanyi including his ground-breaking ideas of embeddedness\, the double movement\, and the substantive economy\, offers fertile ground for re-thinking and expanding our understanding of what entrepreneurship is\, and can be. \nIn this webinar we will explore new avenues for entrepreneurship research using Polanyian ideas. The webinar will feature presentations by entrepreneurship scholars that have used Polanyis work in empirical and conceptual analysis as well as interactive sharing of ideas and visions for future entrepreneurship research. \nThe speakers include Michael Roy (Stirling University)\, Vicky Nowak\, and Caroline Parkinson (both Manchester Metropolitan University). \nThe webinar should be of interest to all entrepreneurship scholars interested in new conversations about the role of entrepreneurship in society and in societal change – in particular those looking for new alternative theoretical vocabularies to engage in reflective and critical explorations of this topic. \nWebinar Facilitator: Steffen Korsgaard (University of Southern Denmark) \nParticipation in the webinar is free of charge but registration is required. SUMMARY:ECSB Online Symposium on “Masculinities and Entrepreneurship”
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Gender and Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group \nSymposium Panellists:\nUlla Hytti\, University of Turku\, Finland\nRenaud Redien-Collot\, ISC Paris Ecole de Commerce\, France\nAndreas Giazitzoglu\, University of Newcastle\, UK\nMiruna Radu-Lefebvre\, Audencia Business School\, France\nRobert Smith\, Independent Researcher\, UK\nElisabet Carine Ljunggren\, Nord University\, Norway \nFacilitators:\nNatalia Vershinina\nHelle Neergaard\nGry Agnete Alsos \nTopic Summary:\nTraditional masculine gender norms and values are often associated with entrepreneurship and business success. In many societies\, masculinity is often linked to traits such as competitiveness\, risk-taking\, assertiveness\, and individualism\, which are also seen as key traits for successful entrepreneurship. Historically\, entrepreneurship has been largely dominated by men\, and women have often faced significant barriers to entering the field. This has led to the development of a “masculinized” culture around entrepreneurship\, which can create challenges for other marginalized groups seeking to start their own businesses. \nOur panellists are experts of gender and masculinities in the context of entrepreneurship. The purpose of this symposium is to debunk some of the myths associated with how masculinities play out in entrepreneurship by exploring: Entrepreneurial Masculinity as a historical construct; Role model selection process in the context of male entrepreneurship; Gender dynamics and masculinity in family business contexts; Visualising the aesthetics of embodied masculine corporate and entrepreneurial identities; Entrepreneurial masculinities and fatherhood. \nNOTE! The event is open to both ECSB and ISBE members. Your membership status will be checked before granting access to the event. To become an ECSB member\, visit https://ecsb.org/join-ecsb/.
