SUMMARY:2nd Annual RENT Abstract Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to submit to RENT in Gdansk this year? And have you… \n\nalready planned to submit\, but need some feedback (especially if it is one of the first times that you submit to the RENT)?\nconsidered a submission\, but are not sure whether your work is a good fit for the RENT?\nhave a first draft or sketch of your submission and want to further work on it with your peers?\n\nIf any of these conditions apply to you\, join us for this year’s Abstract Writing Workshop! Together\, we will meet online via Zoom and first\, get some tips from experienced ECSB members to improve the chances of our submission. While this provides a good point to get started\, the majority of this workshop will be spent writing the abstract\, getting and giving feedback and jointly reflecting our writing process with support from experienced advisors. \nWith this interactive workshop\, we aim to contribute to high-quality submissions of extended abstracts for the RENT and\, from an individual participant’s perspective\, we will actually get (most) of the writing done. This workshop entails: \n\nExpert’s advice on abstract writing for the RENT\nWorking individually on your writing\nReflecting together in small groups\nGiving and receiving feedback from experienced advisors\nDiscuss challenges with experts and colleagues\n\nThis means that this is an actual workshop in which you will actually work on your own abstracts. To get the most out of this\, please prepare a draft version of your abstract beforehand. This can be a rough sketch in bullet points\, but bring along a version that you can further work on. \nhttp://www.rent-research.org/conference-tracks-2023 \nhttp://www.rent-research.org/SUBMISSION-DEADLINE2023 \nLet’s get the abstract writing done together! \n  \nOrganizers\nThis workshop is organized as a joint initiative from several ECSB country vice presidents\, represented by: \n\nVerena Meyer (ECSB country VP for Germany)\nRenata Osowska (ECSB country VP for UK)\nJarmila Šebestová (ECSB country VP for Czech Republic)\nPekka Stenholm (ECSB country VP for Finland)\n\n\nParticipation\nParticipation is free\, but a registration is required by 11 April 2023. The registered participants will receive a link to a brief survey\, providing us with some information to ensure efficient group work\, and a Zoom link to join the meeting. \nContact person\nVerena Meyer (verena.meyer(at)leuphana.de)

SUMMARY:PDW “Please make me whole again – How to practice sustainable entrepreneurship research”
DESCRIPTION:ECSB offers an online Professional Development Workshop “Please make me whole again – How to practice sustainable entrepreneurship research” on 15 March 2022 at 10:00-12:00 CET. \nThe PDW is open to ECSB & ISBE members. Register by 11 March via the link available at the bottom of the page. If you do not have a valid ECSB members\, to join ECSB\, visit: https://ecsb.org/join-ecsb/. To join ISBE: visit https://isbe.org.uk/about-us/how-to-join/. \nPDW Description\nPDW Chairs: Sarah Dodd (Strathclyde University) and Friederike Welter (University of Siegen) \nBackground: Sustainability and entrepreneurship have been uneasy bedfellows through much of our short discipline history. Enterprise has been seen largely as a global driver for economic growth\, and for the creation of financial value through new industries and ventures. Yet our ever-present critical chorus has made considerable progress in recent years\, too\, towards sustainable entrepreneurship. This reminds us that so much of real value cannot be measured in dollars and cents\, and that entrepreneurship has the potential to be a sustaining\, stewarding\, re-energizing\, joyful\, creative force\, too. We have come to celebrate and study the smaller scale\, the frugal\, the locally responsive and embedded – a human and humane entrepreneurship which nourishes resources instead of draining them. \nBut what about us as entrepreneurship scholars? COVID 19 is but one major impact factor amongst many which have\, perhaps ironically\, made our research less sustaining of ourselves\, whilst we simultaneously embrace the principles of sustainable entrepreneurship for other peoples and places. \nWhat can we learn from these new insights\, and these everyday entrepreneurs\, that can be brought into our own practices? How can we transform entrepreneurship research into a practice which also nurtures our passions\, peoples\, and places? How can we\, reflexively\, develop and lead sustainable entrepreneurship scholarship that feeds our own minds\, bodies and souls? How can we ourselves enact and manifest the virtues and values of sustainable entrepreneurship that we strive to understand and promote in the lives of others? How do we cope with the ever-increasing demands of our profession on our worktime\, and the growing volume of outputs to be delivered? How do we engage in self-care? These are some of the questions we want to explore in our PDW. \nWe believe these questions to be of great importance for the future of individual research careers as well as for the academic system as a whole. Research is\, for most of us and most of the times\, a dream career. We are privileged in combining passion and work. On the other hands\, institutional demands and expectations have grown tremendously\, and excellence is anticipated across all three of our missions. The pandemic has highlighted the numerous competing – if not outright conflicting – demands of our research careers. Junior and early career scholars faced difficulties in making the next career step. Those involved in family care juggled too many responsibilities at the same time. All of this had or will have an impact on ourselves\, our research and our professional future. \nTherefore\, we suggest it is time to begin acting more like sustainable entrepreneurs within our own research practice\, learning from our own research results\, and building new ways of being and becoming sustainable entrepreneurship scholars\, including ourselves within that circle of creative care. \nTarget groups: entrepreneurship scholars at different stages of their career\, looking for learning and networking opportunities to apply their research results / advice to entrepreneurs to their own working lives\, and those of the researchers they nurture. \nOutline of the PDW: Participants will be asked to “bring” along with them digital postcards which represent and illustrate their experiences (insights\, learnings and visions) as to what self-sustaining entrepreneurship research might mean to each of them. In groups of 5-6 people\, each participant will have 3 minutes to share these images and insights. \nGroups will then be invited to each co-create a virtual bricolage of self-sustaining entrepreneurship research\, from their postcards and other sources. \nAfter a short break\, the second hour of the workshop will see participants reflecting on themes and patterns emerging from the bricolage gallery. These will be consolidated into a single word co-created cloud\, before participants are challenged to begin outlining a research agenda for this area. \nRegister by 11 March 2022: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUvc-Cqrj8vG9a72f2xYAKNCvFuisgyfibB

SUMMARY:EE Explore on Unsettling Entrepreneurship Education
DESCRIPTION:EE Explore is a series of online events in entrepreneurship education organized jointly with ECSB and Engage\, the host of 3E2021 Conference. \nThis event will build on a recent Special Issue in Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy (EE&P)\, vol. 3\, issue 3. A link to the SI https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2515127420921480 \nIn this Special Issue\, authors reflect on and resist the tendency to see students as consumers with the ‘right’ to take part in entrepreneurship education and to effectively shape their enterprising selves. The necessity to keep on reflecting on unsettling entrepreneurship education became apparent also through the ongoing present-day Covid-19 crisis\, which suddenly changed the pedagogical scene and put forward the need to move our pedagogical aspirations of unsettling to a digital platform and online teaching. To frame the need for continuous reflection\, we suggest that this crisis can teach us something as valuable as ‘standing still’\, and can help us to reconsider what kind of entrepreneurial society we build together with our students via entrepreneurship education. Perhaps there is a need not to unsettle but rather ‘resettle’ society\, and entrepreneurship education\, into a new direction? \nThe facilitators will be Karin Berglund\, Ulla Hytti & Karen Verduijn. \nRegistration deadline: Monday 25th January 2021 (by 11.30 pm CET) \nRegistration link: https://www.eventbrite.fi/e/ee-explore-unsettling-entrepreneurship-education-registration-132944439397 \nWhen registering\, please indicate what you would like to bring and/or take from the workshop\, thank you.
